Situated in a secluded spot in the heart of the Eskdale Valley, this magical cottage offers tranquil and spacious holiday accommodation for ten human and two canine guests. Perfect for larger families exploring the Lake District, and for groups of friends marking a reunion, this extensive traditional farmhouse has been lovingly updated while retaining a wealth of original features and antique furniture. With plenty of outdoor space for your four-legged friends, this rambling, elegantly furnished retreat makes a fabulous getaway in glorious Lakeland surroundings.

The ground floor has plenty to discover including two lounges, two snugs and two kitchens – one with a friendly dining area perfect for a family celebration. A range of features includes exposed timber ceiling beams, stone flooring, open fires, original fireplaces, antique furniture and beautiful artwork. Two staircases lead to the first-floor bedrooms: two king-size rooms (one en-suite), two twins and an adults’ bunk bedroom, all with exposed oak floorboards, built-in oak cupboards and period furniture. There are also two stylish family bathrooms. Outside, the extensive grounds are perfect for dogs and their owners to explore. Lawns surround the house, and a small garden is enclosed by stone walls, with cobbled paths, fruit bushes, herbaceous plants and a bench offering delightful views. A patio to the front of the house is ideal for dining alfresco, with a little path leading to an orchard and small woodland. Behind the house, a large area of open woodland has a stream with benches overlooking a shallow pond.

Stanley Ghyll Waterfall and Wast Water are both nearby (within 6 miles), providing miles of wonderful walks. Dogs are welcome at landmarks and attractions including Hardknott Roman Fort (5 miles), Eskdale and Ravenglass Railway (2 miles) and Ravenglass Roman Bath House (7.5 miles). Ravenglass is also home to a lovely dog-friendly beach.

A quirky, characterful property with plenty of space for family and friends. Quite isolated, though the surrounding countryside was great for walking.

This is the third consecutive year we have stayed here. A little further to drive than the northern lakes for us but absolutely worth it as this stunning valley is a hidden gem. We have done numerous long and beautiful walks and hardly met a soul. The private and idyllic location of Hollin How is breathtaking. It is also very well equipped. Only poRead moressible negative worth mentioning is the wifi really only covers the kitchen and there is no mobile phone signal in pretty much the whole valley. Hide

The house is spacious, comfortable and full of character. We were a party of 5 so could spread out but there would be plenty of room for more people. The location is stunning. We sat and ate outside a lot, and admired the amazing view. The garden is extensive and well-kept. There were lots of walks nearby (around Wastwater, Stanley Ghyll waterfall Read moreetc) and even from the house. We also climbed Scafell Pike & drove to Coniston (Brantwood House). It was fun going on the steam train. Hide
