Whisk family, friends and four legged friends away to the eastern side of the Lake District National Park and explore the fantastic Eden Valley before enjoying time together in this sociable yet cosy home.
Make your great escape to Shap, 10.5 miles from Penrith and close to the eastern fringes of the Lake District, and take a pair of pups with you to join in the fun. This charming village cottage sleeps four guests, as well as two of their canine companions, and is well placed for long walks through the verdant Eden Valley, as well as days out to picturesque lakes and hikes up to scenic fells and mountain summits. From here, set tails wagging when you walk to Haweswater, 8 miles away, and then pick up the 10-mile walk all the way around the reservoir.
Enter the charming cottage and make a fresh cup of tea from the welcome pack while your happy hounds explore their new home from home. Feed them their dinner in the kitchen, discover a handy utility room, which has a useful washing machine and leads to a WC, and decide what to prepare for your own dinner later on. Take the pups through to the lounge/diner and let them bask in the glow of the wood burner while you find something to watch on the TV/DVD. Settle the pups for the night down here then climb the stairs to either the king-size or the twin room on the first floor. You’ll find the family bathroom up here too. Take your furry friends out for a stroll and then enjoy a cup of tea out on the picnic table or benches in the garden. For the train enthusiast, to the rear of the cottage is the West Coast main line, which occasionally plays host to vintage steam trains including the Flying Scotsman! You also have parking for two cars at the cottage.
Pack a picnic, grab a few dog treats and some water, and drive 11 miles to Pooley Bridge. From here, follow a section of the 20-mile Ullswater Way or take one of the famous, dog-friendly steamers and leap off at one of the lakeside jetties to explore.
