Tucked in the small hamlet of Bridekirk just 2 miles north of Cockermouth, this stunning barn conversion sits within idyllic pastureland with country views from every window. Dating back to the 1830s, it’s been lovingly renovated to provide ample accommodation for eight guests and up to three beloved pups. Conveniently located for both the Lake District and the Solway Coast, this magnificent holiday home has abundant space for relaxing and entertaining. With multiple living areas, a large garden with a wildlife woodland, and a separate entertainment building with a snooker table, reading area, a bar and piano, it’s ideal for family gatherings and special occasions.
Laid out over several split-level floors, this stone barn has been imaginatively redesigned for the modern-day traveller. Original features such as exposed stone walls, ceiling beams and Lakeland slate flooring blend with contemporary fixtures and fittings, including underfloor heating. Rub down muddy paws and hang up leads in the spacious entranceway before entering the main living spaces. With two living areas and some comfortable nooks dotted around, guests can socialise or spread out to enjoy a little downtime. Fill the air with laughter and chatter in the open-plan family room as you whip up meals in the exceptional bespoke kitchen, snack at the breakfast table, and relax in the seating area. Then retire to the higher floors where an impressive lounge and formal dining area exude charm and style. When night falls, leave the pups snoozing by the wood burner and get comfy in the four en-suite bedrooms – three doubles and a twin – which straddle the ground and upper floors of the property. Like the barn itself, the grounds sprawl across several levels with a handful of seating areas arranged to make the most of the superb sunsets.
Birthplace of William Wordsworth, the Georgian market town of Cockermouth offers a variety of independent shops and eateries, and the ruins of a 13th century castle. Guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to wonderful walkies, with Lake District attractions including Derwentwater (18 miles) and St Bees Head Heritage Coast (18.5 miles), which features a nature reserve, coastal walks, and a dog-friendly beach.
