Situated at the foot of Blencathra with excellent road links to Keswick and Derwentwater, this homely abode sleeps six humans and two hounds. Scale the summit from the comfort of your doorstep and leave no stick unfetched, returning for a slap-up meal in the dog-friendly pub next door. Cycling, water sports and even golf are all possibilities in this fantastic region of the Lake District National Park, leaving you with endless opportunities for adventure.

The property is homely and comfortable with a lounge/diner at its heart, providing a restful retreat for your family. The waggy-tailed members will soon take prime position under the table at mealtimes, waiting to help you sample delicious local produce. Your kitchen is equipped with all the essentials for mealtimes, or why not pack up a picnic and eat al fresco in the private patio garden. You’ll also have use of the shared BBQ and picnic area to the rear for special suppers. At bedtime, hose down muddy paws in the ground floor shower room then take your pick of the bedrooms. There are two downstairs on the lower ground floor where you’ll also find a generous bathroom. Completing the property on the first floor is a large bedroom set in the eaves.

Blencathra has several ridges to conquer, and once you reach the highest point at Hallsfell Top you’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping views at every angle. Down in the valley, Skiddaw Forest and the River Greta provide a natural playground for humans and hounds less than 15 miles away. Weary from your excursions or hungry for more, Derwentwater is an excellent destination for gentle walks and water sports. Fido will love keeping you company on the boats, especially if you round off your excursion with lunch in a tearoom.

A really good location, marred by the niggles of: no towels, missing bulbs, bedside light not working, a lot of white dog hair on carpets, no large frying pan, unsteady microwave, and fridge door not closing properly. Good to have two bathrooms for six adults, nice spacious rooms. Missing a dining room chair. (only5)

We love these 3 places for staying but maybe they could do with a lick of paint and maybe getting WiFi

What a lovely cottage, right at the foot of Blencathra. We stayed for a week, 5 adults, a child, a baby and 2 dogs. For such a good price we expected it to be basic but it exceeded our expectations. Comfy beds, warm and comfy, plenty of space. We will definitely be coming back again!

Great location and spacious. Good pub next door although pre-booking is advised for food. Property was left dirty in places and for the price wed expect a kettle and bin bags.

Having read reviews before booking we were aware that the cottage needed a refurb but we were still surprised at how badly stained the carpets were and how tired the cottage was in general. Having said that it suited us well and the location was ideal

PROs: Comfy beds with comfy clean bedding, hot showers and well located with good pub opposite and easy onto the fells. Cottage was toasty. BUT really needs some TLC: broken furniture, dishwasher not working, kitchen tired (earlier reviewers said similar), little things like too few wine glasses, hob has no "hot" light, fridge light not working, nuRead morember of light bulbs need replaced. Struggled to keep bath running hot. It was fine for our last-min planned hols but definitely needs some attention Hide

Very run down. Cheaper cottage but would still expect equipment to work . So many things broken or not working correctly . Upstairs bedroom an utter disgrace. Chest of drawers had no fronts. If you couldn't repair it at least remove it. No proper working blind . Dodgy fridge door held together with screws into plastic. Dishwasher wouldn't dissolve Read moretablet. Shower was blocked had to sort that . Various bulbs not working. Will not be returning there. Hide

The accommodation is spacious. The location is very good for exploring the Northern Lakes. The White Horse Inn behind the property is useful for meals. Would recommend but the accommodation requires some furniture items replacing.
