Sitting in the teeny village of Applethwaite, this large, converted barn combines stunning views with spacious interiors, and it’s only 2 miles from Keswick – the so-called Adventure Capital of England.
Large enough to accommodate your entire party of 12 humans and three hounds, this impressive property is top dog for outdoor adventures worthy of any keen canine. You’ll be based in a sleepy village of Applethwaite at the foot of Skiddaw yet just 2 miles from Keswick, the renowned adventure capital of the Lake District. You’ll also be within easy reach of the marvellous Borrowdale Valley and serene Derwentwater. Fido will be spoilt for choice of sticks to fetch and scents to investigate wherever you roam.
Head inside and discard your outdoor gear, grabbing giant mugs of tea ready to sprawl on the sofas of the lounge. Let sleeping dogs lie by the crackling flames of the fire and delve into a bowl of popcorn on family film nights, best enjoyed after a delicious feast in the kitchen/diner. There are eight bedrooms to choose from on the first and second floors sharing a combination of three shower rooms and a bathroom for refreshing weary paws. Dine alfresco against a backdrop of rolling peaks from the vantage point of the patio, scratching behind Rover’s ears as you sip drinks and watch the sunset.
Take to the treetops at Go Ape (5.5 miles), satisfy your inner adrenaline-enthusiast with water sports at Derwentwater (4 miles), or simply take the bikes and get outside to explore. The most adventurous guests will be thrilled with mountaineering to the summits of Skiddaw (3.5 miles), or why not keep to a less gruelling path and bask in the stunning sight of Bassenthwaite Lake (8 miles) and the surrounding fells interspersed with Neolithic remnants. Keswick has plenty to offer in the way of entertainment thanks to the museum and famous Theatre by the Lake, plus oodles of dog-friendly eateries.
