The nearest lake is Derwentwater (8.5 miles), which boasts a magnificent 10-mile scenic walk around the Queen of the Lakes, along flat paths, through ancient woodlands and the chance to stop for dog-friendly refreshments as you go. It’s truly enchanting. Stock up the cupboards with a trip to Keswick (5 miles), where you’ll find plenty of cafes, ice cream shops and patisseries to indulge in something sweet.
