You’re sure to be enchanted by this lovely Grade II-listed original mill cottage in the heart of Sir Titus Salt’s model Victorian village of Saltaire. Sleeping two people in one bedroom and welcoming one canine companion, it’s the perfect historic retreat for romantic couples who want to experience some authentic culture on their break away. Spend your days walking your pup at Hirst Wood Nature Reserve, and your evenings BBQ-ing on the patio with your dog at your side.
Step inside this charming cottage and you’ll be greeted by a cosy lounge. Make yourself at home and then head on through to the kitchen (check out the quirky coffee nook – just one of the property’s original features) and cook up a romantic meal for two. Alternatively, head out onto the patio, fire up the BBQ and dine alfresco. After dinner, pop open a bottle of something fizzy and watch the stars come out, or head into the lounge to snuggle up on the sofa while your pup snoozes by the wood burner-effect electric fire. When the day is done, you’ll find a beautiful Victorian-style bedroom upstairs. When you wake up in the morning, make full use of that original coffee nook.
Take your pup for a lovely stroll along the Leeds Liverpool Canal at Hirst Wood Nature Reserve (0.5 miles). You’ll find plenty of pretty forest walkways where your faithful friend can run free, and the wildflowers in springtime are wonderful. Or take your pup on a trip on the Shipley Glen Tramway (4 miles). Sit back and take in the views as you ride on a narrow-gauge cable-hauled tram that was originally built in 1895. In the evening, there are a few friendly dog-friendly pubs in the heart of the village where you can grab a bite to eat.
