Glamour abounds at this luxurious stone cottage in the heart of the village of Middleham. Featuring elegant detailing throughout, the property was built in 1720 using stone from Middleham Castle’s North Gate. Sleeping eight people over four bedrooms and welcoming two faithful friends, it’s the dream village retreat for large families or groups of friends (as well as their pampered pups) that appreciate a little style and sophistication when they travel.
Kick off your day with a coffee on one of the ‘garden sofas’ in the landscaped gardens. Let your pups run free in the enclosed space while you plan the day ahead. After a day of dog-walking in the Yorkshire Dales, host some pre-dinner cocktails in the garden’s quaint summer house or jump in the covered hot tub and relax. Down some steps, rustle up some dinner in the kitchen/breakfast room and serve up a meal to remember in the intimate dining room. Alternatively, head back outside and dine alfresco in one of the garden’s two dining areas. After dinner, crack open a bottle of something fizzy and toast your Yorkshire getaway, or make your way to the drawing room and watch your dogs snooze contentedly by the wood burner in the inglenook fireplace. When the day is done, retire to one of the four lavishly decorated bedrooms upstairs.
Middleham Castle - the childhood home of Richard III - is practically on your doorstep (0.1 miles). Take your pups for a walk around the ruins and then settle down at one of the picnic benches for some lunch. Alternatively, take your pups for an atmospheric stroll through the woods in Ilton to the Druid’s Temple (12.5 miles). This intriguing 19th-century folly is shrouded in local myths of mystical practices. In the evening, there are a few nice dog-friendly pubs in Middleham to relax in.
