Stride straight out across the beautiful foothills of the Black Mountains from this exquisite, dog-friendly hideaway near Talgarth. Sleeping just two guests, but welcoming a happy hound as well, the unique, one-bedroom retreat enjoys glorious, shared gardens, as well as a private, outdoor seating area. Nestled within Bannau Brycheiniog, also known as the Brecon Beacons, the delightful cottage is 8.5 miles from Hay-on-Wye and 5.5 miles from Llangorse, with its lake.

Wander into this enticing, colourful bolthole, which is attached to the owner’s home but enjoys its privacy, via your own front door. Find yourselves in a welcoming lounge, where chilly paws can warm up in front of a crackling wood burner. Settle down to watch TV or read your books on the comfortable furniture while your contented canine dozes on the rug. Take four steps up into the magnificent kitchen/diner, with its high vaulted ceiling and gallery above. Let your cheerful chum wander about, while you prepare his dinner and whip up something tasty for the two of you as well. Dine in style at the grand table while your furry friend finds a corner to stretch out in. Bid him goodnight before heading off to lay your head on your pillow in your delightful double bedroom, which has an en-suite shower room featuring a waterfall shower. Bask out in the sunshine in the shared, walled garden, with your pet close by as often as possible. Play ball with him on the lawn, cook on the BBQ and take in the mountain views.

Follow the 4-mile walk around the edge of Llangorse Lake with your delighted dog by your side. Head 5 miles up to the River Wye at Glasbury, where you can hire a canoe and take your pup out with you if he is a water-loving hound.

  • Fishing on the River Usk (one rod) is available by arrangement with owner
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £150 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £20. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay at Painters and Sue and Niel made us feel so welcome. The cottage is a pure delight and the kitchen and dining space is amazing! We spent a lot of time there and then snuggled down for the evening in the lounge with the wood burner making it super cosy. Teddy, our dog, enjoyed the garden as we did too! We had such a lovely week in this beautiful cottage. Sue and Neil were welcoming and very helpful. The house is full of interesting artwork, pottery, sculpture and quirkiness. The bedroom is compact but the main living areas are incredibly spacious and a joy to be in. The garden was beautiful and full of flowers. What an amazing spot on the Black Mountains just outside the town of Talgarth. The cottage was beautiful and very eclectic, a positive art gallery. Sue and Niel were very friendly and took an interest in our daily jaunts. You certainly arrive as paying guests and leave as friends. We had a lovely time on our stay. Neil and Sue were extremely welcoming and accommodating and provided us with some basics to welcome us and plenty of firewood throughout our stay. The cottage was beautiful and very peaceful and in a perfect location to visit Hay and explore the Brecon Beacons and the rest of Wales.

This cottage near Talgarth is situated very well if you're into walking the western part of the Brecon Beacons. Easy access to a through road. Talgarth has a small supermarket. The property was beautiful, very clean, tidy and a great quiet location. Close enough to the village to walk but far enough away to feel remote. Even though its was the middle of summer the nights were chilly so the log fire was very welcome and the lounge was cosy. Lovely big kichen and dining area. Lots to do in the area, great for cycling and waRead morelking. Hosts were very friendly and left us a lovely little welcome hamper. No critism apart from the damp weather!! Hide

A lovely spacious cottage for two people. The double height dining room with large windows and a big table was where we spent most of our time, but the lounge with wood fire was also cosy. The Painter's Cottage is a wonderful place for creatives. It's full of beautiful paintings, art books and poetry. We had a fabulous week there and our hosts, Sue and Neil couldn't have been kinder. They're wonderful people.
