At the end of the day, return to warm your toes near the Aga as your pup curls up on his favourite blanket, before enjoying a challenging game of pool, providing hours of entertainment for young and old!

 

A magnificent Arts and Crafts house, beautiful period features blend effortlessly with contemporary touches, with traditional elements such as the stained-glass windows, grand staircase and oak panelling highlighting the true beauty of this country property. With patio doors to the garden from both the dining room and kitchen, the outdoors are never far away, and open fires in the reception hall, study and lounge ensure there is ample space for everyone to grab a seat in front of the crackling flames. All bedrooms are en-suite and set across the first and second floors. Start the morning with a coffee on the terrace, the perfect spot for al fresco dining. In the evening, take your dinner to the summer house and watch the kids play on the croquet lawn.

 

Picturesque Melrose is located directly on the Southern Upland Way, so walkers, hikers and bikers will be in heaven! Glentress Forest (18 miles) offers hiking/biking trails, a treetop adventure course and horse riding. Galashiels (1.5 miles) has shopping and leisure facilities for the urbanites, or jump on the Scottish Borders Railway, pup in tow, and enjoy day trips to Edinburgh (33 miles). At the end of the day, potter to the local dog-friendly pub, less than a mile away.

The owner's attention to small issues was exemplary. Some of the bedrooms would benefit from having a work table and chair, as would the large ground floor sitting rooms. This was especially important when the weather was poor!

Vey lovely beautiful house and garden. Comfortable beds. Huge well equipped kitchen and lovely large dining table. The games room was fantastic for the 5 kids (7-13) as the weather was rainy most of the week. Some lovely walks. Recommend Abbotsford and for the adults at least the "Great Tapestry of Scotland".

Maplehurst house is a wonderful house and very well appointed in both communal and bedroom areas The garden is lovely and well maintained and there is plenty of parking available. Minor issue over the heating was promptly dealt with. Wonderful part of the country with many castle and abbeys to visit within easy driving distance. We had a very enjoyable holiday at this unique property. The accommodation is excellent with good and spacious public rooms. The kitchen is large and very well equipped. We where a party of 16 adults and 4 babies a multi generational family celebration. The house offered comforts of a modern home whilst inviting us to fully relish the beautifully crafted rooms and garden. The house is perfect for family gatherings with 2 high chairs and travel cots and activities for all ages from croquet to table tennis. Great property and garden for large family gatherings. We were a party of 12 over 3 generations and everyone was catered for in terms of seating, socialisation and quiet space.
