Have a break in the famous Welsh book town of Hay-on-Wye and take a couple of contented canines with you. This two-bedroom property is at the centre of the historic town which is known for its literary festival. Enjoy exploring the interesting streets, pause for lunch in a dog-friendly pub, then head back to the cottage to soak up the sunshine in the enclosed garden. Plan days trips out from your base; pick up the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path, for example, to keep furry feet happy and tails wagging all day long.
Arrive at the period holiday home and wander in to find a warm welcome. Feed your hungry hounds in the kitchen/diner then prepare something for everyone else with the fresh ingredients you have sourced in Hay. Serve up at the table and open the French windows on warm days, so Fido and Fred can amble in and out. Call your cheerful chums through to the lounge with you for relaxed evenings in together. Find your favourite programme on TV or settle down to a DVD. Give soft ears a last rub before heading up to the steep, cottage-style stairs to a double bedroom, with the family bathroom nearby. A family room, with three single beds, is up more steep, cottage-style stairs on the floor above. Have coffee out in the courtyard garden on warm mornings, while your pals pad about, and light the BBQ in the evening. Parking is on the street or in town car parks, subject to availability.
Head 5 miles from the cottage, and just over the border into England, to enjoy a 6-mile walk with your faithful friends, taking in Craswall Priory and Hay Bluff. For a gentler stroll from home, follow the picturesque, 2-mile Hay-on-Wye River and Rail Trail circular walk.
