The Roaches – a dominant feature in the North Staffordshire landscape – is perfect dog-walking territory. A 5-mile circular route takes you along an elevated rocky ridge and past some fascinating rock formations, with spectacular views out over Tittesworth Reservoir. Spend a relaxing afternoon at Rudyard Lake, which boasts some of the most dramatic scenery in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Stroll along the water’s edge, enjoy a spot of fishing and even take the woofers for a ride on the narrow-gauge steam railway. The pretty market town of Leek, 8 miles away, has a wealth of independent shops, many of which welcome four-legged visitors. The former textile town is a great place to pick up unique soft furnishings and it also hosts some fabulous outdoor markets.
