This fantastic property, situated just 4 miles from Sandown Beach, is a brilliant romantic bolthole for two – and the dog, of course! Sleeping you both in a peaceful king-size bedroom with views over the water, it won’t be long before you’re up and about, heading to the unfenced ponds via your own private paths. Arrange with the owner to go fishing on-site or head to Parkhurst Forest (12 miles) where your pup can chase squirrels and sniff out other wildlife.
The lodge, which is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is bright and welcoming with an open-plan style. Sleek cabinets and worktops in the kitchen make it a pleasure to cook meals in, while a huge sofa in the lounge means you can stretch out and relax after a long day. Your hound will place themselves in front of the cosy wood burner and snooze away the evening. Next door, the bedroom has a quaint and quirky style; wake up among soft, pastel colours and pop out to the terrace with your morning coffee to watch the birds as they begin their day.
Stroll the gardens of Shanklin Chine (4.5 miles) where unusual plants grow thanks to the protection of the gully; visit at night to enjoy the superb garden illuminations. Get some fresh sea air from the top of Yarmouth Castle (18.5 miles), which was the last fort built during Henry VIII’s reign, or let Fido peer out across the island from the ramparts of Carisbrooke Castle (10 miles) which is a former fortress from the Elizabethan era. Ryde Beach (6 miles) has golden sands that are perfect for paws that love to dig. Brave pups will love a ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway (8 miles) as you puff through the countryside.
