This pretty cottage, situated in the quaint village of Hawkshead within 65 metres of two dog-friendly pubs, is the perfect bolthole for exploring the Lake District with your human and canine family. Sleeping four across two peaceful bedrooms and with space for up to two dogs, it won’t be long before you’re all feeling refreshed and ready to head out and discover the scenic walks and water around you. Take a picnic and spend the day at Lake Windermere (5.5 miles), taking a boat trip to lap up more of the views.
The property, which retains many original features, is spacious and comfortable. While away the evenings on beautiful sofas in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire in the lounge which is situated on the first floor, or curl up with the pups at your feet in the snug for a little peace and quiet. Cook in style in the kitchen among wooden beams and a fantastic exposed stone wall, before eating at the rustic table. Both bedrooms promote a tranquil night’s sleep with soft, restful decor. Outside, a patio area with a small stream at the bottom makes a perfect space for sunny al fresco dining.
Go and take a look at Dove Cottage in Grasmere (9 miles), where poet William Wordsworth lived from 1799 to 1808, and peruse the many dog-friendly cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town. You must also try the fantastic gingerbread from the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, open since 1854. Take a beautiful boat cruise on Coniston Water (3.5 miles) where hounds travel free, or spend the day at Fell Foot Park (10 miles) where there is an educational tree trail as well as boating and kayaking.
