Located on the scenic grounds on the owner’s estate, this former stable block and now a stylish apartment is the perfect bolthole for a couple to celebrate any occasion and is ideally located to explore both coast and countryside

Tucked away on the fringes of Constable Country and the beautiful River Stour, this enchanting apartment is the perfect bolthole for couples and one beloved hound. An ideal choice for keen walkers and enthusiastic scramblers alike, the property is surrounded by the grounds of the owner’s estate, and is a mere 4 miles from Flatford, a popular village at the heart of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Inside, the comfortable living space has everything you need for your staycation, including cosy sofas for relaxed TV viewing, a bistro-style table for romantic suppers, and a compact kitchen for preparing simple snacks. Hose down muddy paws in the handy shower room before unwinding with a glass of wine and an exciting film. At bedtime, restful sleep is guaranteed in the irresistible king-size bed. The outside space is not enclosed, but there is an excellent shared patio area and shared lawn space for you to enjoy on sunny evenings, and off-road parking for one car.

Clip-on Fido’s lead and set off to explore, sniffing out a myriad of scenic trails directly from your doorstep. Choose from The Essex Way or the Stour Valley Path to take in the dramatic scenery that inspired the famous landscape painter John Constable. You can also explore by bike, or take to the River Stour by boat for a gentle afternoon on the water. A short 15.5-mile drive will bring you to Hamford Water National Nature Reserve, which welcomes well-behaved owners and canines. If you and your sea dog are craving an afternoon by the coast, The Naze Beach is just 16.5 miles away and is dog-friendly all year round.

We found this to be a sympathetic and pleasant stable conversion in a most delightful, quiet setting. It was perfect for the two of us and our little dog. Conveniently located and ideal to visit family and friends and both the Colchester and Ipswich areas. We intend to return.

This is our second stay at the Clocktower Stables and we also booked the property next door for our son and his partner. We all enjoyed a lovely comfortable long weekend break, Manningtree has a good pub, restaurants with take away menus too. The properties are situated in pretty grounds and positioned well to explore both Suffolk and Essex.
