This superb Northumberland country house, located half a mile along a farm track, is perfect for a family or couples’ getaway – with three dogs welcome! Sleeping six across three bright and welcoming bedrooms, this cottage is the ideal opportunity to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. The property, which offers views of the Cheviot Hills on one side and the breathtaking Northumberland coast on the other, is spacious and comfortable. Enter via the stone-built entrance into a large boot room big enough for all your outdoor gear before heading into the beautiful open-plan living area. Snuggle up in front of the wood burner with the hounds by your feet after a long day out exploring. Cook up a storm in the airy shaker-style kitchen and eat in the outstanding dining area, complete with a bay window and window seats so you can take in the stunning countryside views.

Take a trip to the historic market town of Alnwick (6 miles) and have a browse in the famous second-hand bookshop housed in the old railway station. Be king or queen for the day at Warkworth Castle (13.5 miles) that crowns the hilltop above the River Coquet or wander the gardens at Cragside (17 miles) and discover one of the largest rock gardens in Europe. Get your paws wet in the sea at Embleton Bay (8 miles), where the hounds are welcome all year round; this golden sandy beach is perfect for rock pooling thanks to its bright, clear water.

We cannot recommend The Whinny enough. From the initial welcoming email from Pam and Richard this was the most delightful break. Set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, there has been thought and an attention to detail to make the Whinny the perfect getaway. We will definitely be looking to return.

Our family and two dogs spent a wonderful week at The Whinny. On arriving, after a 6 hour drive, we were met by a very friendly Pam and Richard, who quickly showed us around. Fantastic location for peace and quiet and great countryside views. Weather was very pleasant while we were there, so this definitely helped. Owners were lovely, on hand to be helpful without being intrusive and even provided dog minding to allow us to enjoy Alnwick Castle and gardens. Easy to explore the surrounding area.

A cosy lovely cottage with owners who are very supportive and always keen to help. We had a great week! Few things to be mindful of: Please note the fridge provided is very small. Owners live next door (joined to the property) so are always around to help which is good. The road up to the property is very bumpy (farm track) so drive with care.
