With views over rolling hills and the scenic Perthshire countryside, this 18th-century three-storey mansion house is situated on a 1,000-acre estate. An idyllic base for a rural retreat, it sleeps a party of ten across five bedrooms as well as two of your four-legged friends. The enclosed garden has a large grass lawn for dogs to bound about on, and kids can discover the swing while adults relax with a drink at the seating area. There are walks galore, including the Cateran Trail, which you can join in nearby Cray (3 miles).
Classically stylish throughout the ground-floor rooms, there's plenty of space to spread out. In the living room, wood-panelled walls, a lovely bay window adding natural brightness, and an open fire for chillier evenings mean it's a great place to settle in together to chat and share stories with Fido curled up at your feet. The spacious kitchen/diner is the sociable heart of the house, and once you've finished a meal, the table is ideal for games. Lay your hound's favourite bed or blanket by your chairs, and they'll be content. There's also a snug, for when you're in need of a quiet moment with a book.
Reekie Linn Waterfall (9.5 miles) is a beautiful woodland walk to the falls but watch out for the steep drops and keep curious canines on a lead. Ambitious walkers of both two and four legs can attempt the steeper climbs inside the Cairngorms National Park (3.5 miles). For a day out with a difference, drive to Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre (19 miles), where well-behaved canine companions are welcome inside both the exhibits and the cafe. Discover the history and hear stories of hydro-electricity in Scotland, before admiring the view over a piece of cake. An electric car charging point is also available.
