Set on the banks of the River Bladnoch at the gateway to the Galloway Forest Park, this cosy semi-detached cottage is perfect for families with canine companions, and eager anglers who can enjoy a 10-mile beat of privately-owned salmon and trout fishing by arrangement. Larger groups can book the two additional cottages on-site and there’s a pub and shop a short drive away (3.5 miles).
Step inside this traditional cottage with its cheery colours and cosy comforts for its guests. Everything is on one level and there’s a large garden with gates, great for hounds. Step inside the back door which leads through to the well-equipped kitchen and dining room. Unwind with your best friend in the inviting lounge by the open fire (fuel supplied) where you can sink into squishy sofas (if Lucky hasn’t beaten you to it), and unwind with games, books and a TV/DVD with Freeview. As the night draws in you’ll find two bedrooms, a family bathroom, and travel cot for babies.
Try your hand at fishing, horseriding and shooting. With private access to fishing on three local rivers (by arrangement, fees apply), you’ll want to spend your afternoons on the riverbank catching salmon. Wildlife enthusiasts, including your best friend, can also go bird watching and stargazing at the Galloway Forest Park (10 miles). Or humans can get their thrills on the 7Stanes mountain bike trails, including trails at Kirroughtree Forest (9.5 miles). Get stuck into a good read in Wigtown, Scotland’s famous book town (5 miles) or savour a wee dram at the Bladnoch Distillery (5 miles).
