This traditional byre, nestled within a crofting hamlet on the most westerly point of Skye, is the perfect setting for a romantic retreat – and, of course, your canine companion is welcome too! Accessed by a single-track road that winds through the mountains, you will be able to appreciate the stunning views of Dunvegan Head and, if you're lucky, you may even see the Outer Hebrides. Its secluded position makes it an ideal place for spotting wildlife such as deer and, nearer the coast, you might even see dolphins, whales, basking sharks and sea otters, so keep your binoculars to hand.

This former cow shed has been sympathetically renovated into a cosy home with plenty of original features adding warmth and character. Despite its compact size, it has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay. The open-plan lounge/kitchen is snug and well-equipped and once you've cooked up a storm, you can head outside to eat whilst enjoying the breathtaking views. If your legs are weary after a busy day exploring, you can snuggle up on the sofa in front of the fire with some of your favourite treats before retiring to the bedroom where the four-poster bed adds a touch of glamour.

There is plenty to do in this area of Skye. Dunvegan Castle and Gardens (11 miles), at the heart of the Macleod Estate, is worth a visit and dogs on a lead are welcome in the gardens. Boasting interesting walks and scrambles, and home to 12 Munros, the spectacular Cuillin Ridge is worth the drive of 36 miles (approx. 75 minutes). If you're looking for somewhere for that special, celebratory meal, head to the world-renowned Three Chimneys Restaurant (5.5 miles). Needless to say, the opportunities for walks amongst the breathtaking scenery are endless.

Colquhoune's Byre is a delightful cottage in a stunning location. Whilst compact, it had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The garden is a delight with a lot of benches and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views. We were even visited by some red deer. There is plenty of space for dogs and their humans. We loved staying at Colquhoune's Byre, it's a very cosy, comfortable and homely wee house. As many reviewers have said, the bed is really, really comfortable and the bedroom is suprisingly spacious. This is such a cute cottage located on the edge of a cliff giving you amazing views. Within an hour reach of everywhere we wanted to go which was ideal as not too far but close enough we were still away from civilisation. The bed was so comfy, the fire was a massive bonus for us and the kitchen supplied us with everything you need for your stay.

We loved the cottage its location is super isolated and so cosy. The views from the front door are to die for and there is no ambient lighting at night so the clear night sky is stunning. We tried to fit as much in as we could in the week we were there. Kilt Rock is the highlight for us as there was a piper playing. Hide

Nice, comfortable cottage in isolated area. We recommend food stores in Dunvegan and trails and sightseeing on North Eastern part of island (Portree and above). Nest point, Coral beach and Culling were amazing too. Some midgets on these parts, but that os common for Skye in non-windy areas with sweet water.
