Further afield there's the thriving town of Fort William (7 miles) and skiing at the Nevis Range Mountain Resort (3 miles).
The former fishing lodge has been renovated to a high standard and each room is elegantly furnished to create a warm and comfortable environment. Large windows frame clear views of Ben Nevis and allow natural light to flood into each room. Four-legged guests are permitted on the ground floor, where there's ample room for them to make themselves at home and a handy dogs' room with a sink, to freshen up after playing outdoors. There are numerous social spaces, including the grand dining room with a large mahogany table and the morning room featuring a roaring open fire – the perfect napping room for you and the hounds after a long walk. There's plenty of room to store all your dogs' paraphernalia in the conservatory porch and the handy heated drying cupboard.
For scenery that takes your breath away, head to Nevis Range Mountain Experience (3 miles). Dogs go free on the mountain gondola, where you can take in panoramic views of the Highlands. The Jacobite Steam Train offers a day out the whole party can enjoy. Jump aboard in Fort William and take the 85-mile round trip to Mallaig, taking in some of Scotland's finest landscapes and passing over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films. Small/medium-sized dogs are welcome on the train (one per booking).
