This splendid property, situated just half a mile’s walk from the Cerne Abbas Giant, is perfect for your family – including the waggy-tailed member! Sleeping five across three warm bedrooms and with plenty of space for the pup to snooze, you could all soon be enjoying one of the long countryside walks you’ll find right from the front door. But if you crave a bit of the hustle and bustle, the towns of Dorchester (8 miles) and Bridport (17.5 miles) are close by and boast plenty of vintage shops and cafes to peruse of an afternoon.

The cottage, which is accessed via a short path from the lane, is cosy and comfortable. The kitchen/diner is bright and airy, making it an ideal space to enjoy a leisurely family meal, while the inviting seating in the lounge beckons you to sink back in front of the wood burner with the canine at your feet. Upstairs, the bedrooms provide the perfect space for some relaxation after a day out in the country air. Wake up among soft, peaceful decor and head down to the pretty enclosed garden with your morning coffee for an al fresco breakfast.

A holiday to Dorset isn’t complete without a trip to the Jurassic Coast. Head down to Chesil Beach (19 miles), where the hound can unleash it all and go sniffing out fossils with the kids, or pop to Bowleaze Cove (16 miles) on your way back from Weymouth after the children have solved the murder mystery along the Treasure Trail that begins just south of Weymouth beach (17 miles). Further inland, Sherborne Castle (11.5 miles) has stunning Grade I listed landscaped gardens designed by Capability Brown that the entire family can enjoy strolling around on a sunny day.

There were some problems of cleanliness and repair, not enough comfortable sitting space in the lounge, and bedrooms lacked some basic facilities. Parking is a problem and needs to be sorted out with one of the neighbours. Nevertheless, the property has charm, has a useful enclosed back garden, and is in a delightful village. We would certainly rRead moreeturn if a few matters could be put right. Hide

This was our 4th stay in this lovely house which is in an ideal location. However we were disappointed that the house was not very cosy when we arrived and there was no "first basket of logs included" as stated on Holiday Cottages website so we spent a chilly evening after a long journey. We have visited in February previously but had not realised Read morehow cold the kitchen could be. The house looks a bit tired now and needs some TLC. Some of the baking trays had not been cleaned and the front door had to be slammed several times to close it! However beds are very comfy and plenty of hot water .Parking was an issue sometimes due to other residents parking outside. Response from Holiday Cottages - Thank you for your feedback, I can confirm the basket of logs was a one off oversight and will not occur for future stays Hide

Excellent location, great walks.Hive beach worth a visit. Boat trip in Poole worthwhile. Be aware 3 pubs in village, check closure times. Hotel said I would have to give at least 2 days notice for breakfast, didn't do walk ins for food. Other 2 pubs great ,one closed Mondays and Tuesdays and the other 1 shut Mondays. Shop handy.

A lovely cottage in a picturesque and peaceful village in the heart of rural Dorset. Comfortable and clean, the accommodation fulfilled all our needs. It was well equipped and nicely decorated. A great central location for visiting the coast and countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would love to return in the future.

The cottage in a superb location. The beds are comfortable, and the house and garden felt spacious enough for 3 adults. We had a lovely holiday.

A gem of a cottage in a beautiful location. Abbey Cottage was comfortable, well furnished and equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed a relaxing stay with countryside walks on the doorstep, lovely village pubs and a well stocked shop. A great base to explore the Dorset coastline from too. We would highly recommend! Hide

Abbey Cottage was a lovely comfortable place to stay for our 2 weeks in Cerne Abbas. Plenty of room and with a large garden the 2 dogs were happy. Beds and sofa comfortable and the window seat was a nice bonus. Lovely to sit by the window and watch TV in the evening. Tea, coffee, biscuits etc left on arrival which was a nice touch. As with most dogRead more friendly cottages, theyre not allowed on furniture or upstairs. Very happy to recommend and we would stay here again. Hide
