Situated in the quiet village of Hutton Magna in Teesdale, this charming cottage is the perfect property for families and their canine companions. Conveniently nestled between the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the south and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the north, there are endless opportunities for ‘walkies’ in the surrounding countryside. After a day out walking or exploring the many independent shops, pubs and tearooms in the local market towns, you’ll be pleased to snuggle up in front of the wood burner with some of your favourite treats.

This picture-postcard cottage’s traditional exterior creates a wonderful contrast with the sleek décor inside, where the pale grey palette creates a light and airy contemporary home. The open-plan lounge/diner with its wood burner is great for spending quality time together, whilst the modern kitchen is small, but well-equipped. There is also a charming twin bedroom. Upstairs, you’ll find a delightful king-size bedroom with sloped ceilings and dual aspect views, and a large family bathroom with a free-standing bath. Outside, there is a lawned garden to the front and an enclosed courtyard garden to the rear with a gate out to the adjoining fields. Please note, there’s a big step up to the front door.

Named after its castle, market town Barnard Castle (7 miles) is steeped in history, surrounded by stunning scenery and offers a range of shops and eateries. Other local towns and villages also have lots to offer and are good places to walk from. ‘Gateway to the Dales’, gorgeous Richmond (10 miles) has lots of historic buildings and is not far from the natural beauty of the Dales. Reeth (15.5 miles) is also a good place to walk from as it’s situated at the base of a natural amphitheatre with beautiful panoramas. The Pennine Way is also within 20 miles.

  • 2 bedrooms: 1 king-size and 1 twin

This gorgeous cottage is perfect for those with dogs and wish to explore the Dales and beyond. The layout worked well for myself and my two large dogs- although, a stairgate would have made keeping them downstairs easier! Clean and tidy with thRead moree odd patched-up-paint-job but then again, no one with dogs wants to stay somewhere clinically pristine. Would recommend to anyone! Hide

Lilac Cottage is idyllic. Beautiful quaint cottage in a small village which was perfect. The cottage had a lot of character and history. The surrounding countryside was great for dog walks. Local farm shops had everything you needed, pricey but worth it. My husband and I will definitely be staying again.

A very comfortable cosy cottage with everything we needed. A good location but a shame that local walks were inaccessible because they were overgrown. However plenty of really good variable in character walks within a few miles drive. A quiet village where we were made to feel welcome. We and the two dogs felt like it was a home from home.

The cottage setting is lovely as is the village, easy to get to places if you drive. There was more than enough equipment for 3 of us except for only 1 towel each being left out. Wine, milk and biscuits much appreciated after a long drive but good job we brought our own coffee. The cottage was warm, beds comfy and more than enough space for us all.
