This riverside retreat in the historic town of Knaresborough makes a great base for families and groups of friends looking to explore the spectacular towns and countryside of North Yorkshire with their waggy-tailed pals. Enjoy walks along the riverbank directly from the property, or head to one of the nearby paw-friendly attractions such as Mother Shipton’s Cave (200 metres) or Brimham Rocks (11 miles). In the evenings, sip a sundowner and take in the sights from the impressive rooftop terrace.
Stone steps lead to the front door of this quirky three-storey property. The period home is bursting with personality, with exposed beams, ornate woodwork, and ornamental fireplaces. Enter the property into the cosy lounge/diner, where you’ll find a large dining table for sharing mealtimes as a group. After dinner, relax on the comfortable sofa to watch the TV/DVD, with the hounds curled at your feet. Just off the dining area is an unusual snug area, cut into the cliff face – the perfect place to chill out with your favourite book. Stairs lead up to the kitchen, which again boasts a myriad of original features as well as flagstone flooring, making it a good spot to set up the dog beds. A flight of stairs leads to two attractive bedrooms, one of which has a Juliet balcony overlooking the river. The remaining bedrooms are on the top floor, along with a gorgeous bathroom with a roll-top bath. Outside, accessed via the first-floor landing, you’ll find steps leading to a lawned garden with river views. A wooden walkway from here leads to the magnificent, turreted roof terrace with furniture for al fresco entertaining under the stars. Please note, this area has a low wall, making it unsuitable for children and four-pawed guests.
Knaresborough is an attractive market town with a maze of narrow, medieval streets and historic buildings. Enjoy a potter around its independent shops, before popping into one of the woof-friendly tearooms or coffee shops. The town hosts a regular, open-air market which is the perfect place for picking up local produce and souvenirs from your holiday. Directly opposite the property is a boathouse where you can hire a rowing boat to enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the river with your canine companions. Just 1 mile away is the beautiful wooded landscape of Nidd Gorge, which is the ideal spot for a shady walk with the pups on a summer’s day.
