Be in walkies heaven with a stay at this beautiful three-bedroom holiday home overlooking St Catherine’s Lighthouse. With fantastic sea views from several rooms, you’ll be itching to get out and about to explore the stunning scenery. It’s perfect for families with one four-legged friend who can enjoy long walks along the coastal path to blow the cobwebs away, while the garden itself has plenty of nooks and crannies for Fido to get his nose into.
Inside, the cottage is tastefully furnished in warm tones and feels very homely. Rustle up family meals in the stylish shaker kitchen or amble across the road to the historic local inn – it’s very canine-friendly and even has a mini-menu of doggy treats. Evenings in are all about relaxing in the spacious lounge with a good book or DVD. When you’re feeling dog tired, head upstairs for a good night’s sleep. Outside is a secluded south-facing garden that catches the sun, with a patio for al fresco dining. It isn’t enclosed, but the area is very quiet. At the far end of the garden is a seating area with views out to sea, with St Catherine’s Lighthouse in the distance. It’s a great vantage point for watching the sailing boats pass by, particularly for the Round the Island Race in June.
One of the best walks in the area is from St Catherine’s Lighthouse along the dramatic and unspoilt coastline all the way to The Needles. Reeth Bay (0.5 miles) is a quiet beach for dogs who fancy a runout, while the popular seaside resort of Ventnor is 5 miles away. The town offers a great choice of shops and places to eat and drink, while dogs on leads are welcome to explore Ventnor Botanic Garden.
