Lead your small or medium-sized dog into this historic cottage, where a warm welcome awaits in the form of cosy furnishings, books on shelves and even an open fire. It’s perfect for couples and small families, and your pup will love its enclosed garden. When you want to get out and about, there are fabulous walks from your door to the downs and the coastal path.
The Grade II-listed cottage dates back to the 18th century and you’ll immediately notice its charming original features such as beams, flagstone floors and cottage-style stairs. The cute lounge is a sweet space with the fireplace as its focal point – a comfortable spot in which to relax, perhaps with a DVD playing on the TV. The compact kitchen includes open shelves and painted cupboards, and there’s a dining table that accommodates four. At bedtime, settle your furry friend and take the narrow stairs to the first floor, where you’ll find a double bedroom with a traditional metal bed and a family bathroom. Head up a further flight of steep stairs and you’ll reach the second floor, with its spacious twin room and small en-suite shower, both of which have sloping ceilings. When you want to dine alfresco or simply bask in the sun, the back garden boasts outdoor furniture and an inviting sunroom. From here, go through the gate and onto Corfe Castle Common, or join footpaths to explore the Purbeck Hills.
The cottage is located close to Corfe Castle’s village square, and you can take your hound (on a lead) to visit the famous castle ruins – and even buy them a gourmet treat in the tea room. For long runs on soft sand, head to Swanage’s Monkey Beach, 6 miles, and afterward head into the seaside town for a stroll along the Victorian pier.
