Less than half a mile from the beautiful sandy beach at Dunraven Bay, this three-bedroom house is ideal for families, including canine members, seeking a comfortable base from which to explore the South Wales coastline and countryside. Set in the quiet village of Southerndown, the South Wales Coast Path runs through the village offering stunning coastal walks and the dog-friendly village pub is the perfect spot to stop for refreshments on the return.
Arranged to take advantage of the coastal and rural landscape, this reverse-level wing of an 18th-century residence is not to be sniffed at. The three comfortable bedrooms, two doubles and a twin, are located on the ground floor, along with the family bathroom. Remember to pack your pet’s favourite bedding so they can rest their paws in comfort too. Take the stairs to the impressive open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where you can prepare tasty meals in the well-equipped kitchen area to share around the large dining table. After supper, curl up on one of the plump sofas with your hound at your feet, enjoying the warmth of the wood burner. Outside is a private garden area (not enclosed) where you can sip your morning coffee, and a shared larger lawn area to stretch your paws.
With walks from the doorstep, tails will wag at your cottage’s convenient location. Within easy reach, the lovely beach at Ogmore-by-Sea (1.5 miles) is a great spot for splashing in the surf and to take the lead along the river, pausing for a picnic among the castle ruins. The endless sand dunes of Merthyr Mawr (4.5 miles) offer miles of off-lead walks while slightly further afield, the traditional seaside town of Porthcawl (10 miles) has a long sandy beach and plenty of dog-friendly cafes.
