Just a few minutes from the Scottish Borders, in the quiet hamlet of Easton, this bespoke built shepherd’s hut is the perfect spot for an off-grid, romantic retreat. Sleeping two, it’s a couples’ dream getaway, with space to bring your beloved canine companion along for long walks in the nearby Lake District and exploring Hadrian’s Wall.
Add to the hut’s cosy, welcoming aesthetic by firing up the wood burner as you snuggle in the comfortable double bed watching TV or a DVD. You’ll find the essential amenities inside the hut, but the well-equipped kitchen and the stylish shower room with show and WC are in a separate building nearby. Next to the hut is a private picnic table where you can dine alfresco, cooking your favourite dinner on the charcoal BBQ as you sit back and enjoy the wonderful countryside views. The hut is set on a private 15-acre smallholding, so there will often be a friendly neighbour or two wanting to say hello, including ponies and goats. Take a short walk through the meadow that surrounds the accommodation and discover a peaceful hideaway nestled next to the stream, with a fire pit for toasting marshmallows on cooler evenings.
Follow in the footsteps of the Romans at the nearby Hadrian’s Wall (15.5 miles), exploring some of the 83-mile stretch of walkways that cover northern England from coast to coast. A day trip to the Lake District is also not to be missed (26 miles), where you can wonder at the majestic mountains. The city of Carlisle is just 12 miles south, with its imposing castle and cathedral that are well worth a visit.
