This spacious, stylish cottage is a fantastic base for exploring North Devon and beyond. It’s in the little estuary village of Appledore, with its fishing harbour, sea views and eclectic choice of pubs and restaurants. There are wonderful walks from the doorstep around the estuary and neighbouring Northam Burrows Country Park. You’ll also find numerous sandy beaches very close by and the open countryside of Exmoor is well within striking distance.

Inside, you’ll find all the ingredients you need for a sophisticated family holiday. And, as the property sleeps seven humans and two dogs, it could even work for two small families sharing. There are two lounges, one with gorgeous estuary views and doors out to the balcony, and the other a cosy TV snug. The kitchen/diner is spacious and well-equipped, with all you’ll need for big family meals with the dogs at your feet. There are four bedrooms, one with an en-suite and two with fantastic river views. Outside, the balcony is spacious enough for everyone to enjoy an al fresco meal or drink watching the boats bobbing in the harbour. There is also a garden with a large lawn, storage space and direct access, meaning you can get the dogs clean and dry before you head inside.

Appledore is a fantastic place to explore, with lots of mooching potential on the harbourside and some fantastic pubs. The resort of Westward Ho! with its traditional seaside attractions and long sandy beach is 3 miles away. The village of Instow, with its sand dunes, is a short boat ride away across the estuary. You can join the South West Coast Path for endless long walks along cliff tops and through pretty villages. Exmoor, with its wild open countryside and cosy pubs, is around 20 miles away.

Great location, just a short walk into town. Very clean and tidy in a quiet street. Lovely views. Be careful on the stairs to the top floor bedroom as they are very steep, no handrail and low ceiling at the bottom - my daughter cracked her head more than once! Single bedroom is very small. Overall though I thoroughly recommend for your stay in ApplRead moreedore. Hide

Weve just returned from a superb week in Appledore. The welcome pack on arrival, which included treats for the dogs, was a lovely touch. The location of the house was perfect, only a 5 minute walk to the lovely town centre. The driveway was a rarity in Appledown and it was also easy to park on the road outside the house too. The house was really clRead moreean and the garden was spacious and ideal for the two dogs. The neighbours were very friendly. Overall a great experience and well book again. Hide

Fantastic cottage with great views out over the estuary from the patio, the lounge and both double bedrooms. The dynamic nature of the rivers and the sea meant that the view was constantly changing. Appledore is a hidden gem with plenty of opportunity to take in the surroundings and enjoy good food/drink. Slight negative - the en-suite was a touch Read moresmall, but this didnt detract at all. Would definitely book again. Hide

The cottage was very clean and tidy and I would recommend to others. Safe secure back garden if you have little ones and also a handy outside tap so you can clean off sand/mud on your return from beach/walks. For dog owners there was also dog bowls and even treats in the welcome hamper which was a very nice touch!

Only a couple of things I would recommend: A label on the fridge switch as we switched it off without realising overnight. Maybe a couple of pull down shelves either side of the twin beds. A hook on the back of bathroom door and take a look at the shower screen as at the moment water runs onto the floor and bath panel.
