Set on an idyllic village green and once part of a smugglers’ network, this exquisite 17th century house will steal the heart of you and your furry friends. Gateway to The South Downs National Park, East Dean is steeped in Saxon and Norman history and has a superb butchers, dog-friendly pub and farmers’ market every Wednesday. Eastbourne (2 miles) has four-paw beaches at Holywell (4 miles) and Royal Parade (5.5 miles), but with Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters cliffs just over a mile to the south, you’re already spoilt for local sand, sea and stone. If you’re keen to swap squidgy balls for hard little white ones, the superb Royal Eastbourne Golf Club is just 3.5 miles to the east. Inside you’ll find history, elegance and tranquillity in abundance.

The spacious drawing room incorporates charming stained glass and two huge ship’s timbers, offering a quiet space for parts or all of the family to gather and bond. The lounge, with its stone fireplace and hearth and old beams, provides a different space for getaways or get-togethers. Upstairs, the four bedrooms each have their own unique ambience and garden views – the elegant king-size bedroom is dual aspect. The sun room (with access to the second bathroom) is a joyous and restful space, surrounded by mature, terraced gardens.

Further abroad, find fabulous fur-friendly beaches at Seaford Head (5 miles), Normans Bay and West Quay Newhaven (both 10 miles). Explore the narrow Lanes, sea front, pubs, boutiques, restaurants and Pavilion of Brighton (18 miles), and the historic seaside charm of Bexhill (18 miles) and Hastings (23 miles). Discover dramatic castles at Pevensey, Herstmonceux and Lewes (9/15/16 miles). Imbibe history, Nature, culture, gastronomy and adventure in this timeless corner of England.

This was a very pretty and characterful cottage. Perfectly situated within the village green and lovely views of the surrounding hills. The Thai restaurant almost next door had friendly service and excellent food, and we liked the cosy delicatessen too. We all loved our stay.

Just what the doctor ordered. The cottage was wonderful and situated in a perfect place for me and my three large dogs. The garden was a delight. Perfectly situated near sight seeing venues: loved it!

A fabulous stay at Glebe Cottage - the weather was incredible and therefore we were able to enjoy the Sunshine Coast at its best! The cottage is quirky, but very comfortable and homely and the kitchen was particularly well equipped. We hope to book again soon.

Exceeded expectations.. Particularly enjoyed the wonderful garden and having the Deli and Thai restaurant close by, so no need for cooking.

Superb house (home from home), comfortable and great location. The sun house is a sun trap, likewise the walled garden and was perfect for our four legged friends. We had a lovely time at the local farmers market, the Deli were very hospitable unlike the chap in the Hikers Rest cafe. We also had a great meal at the Tiger pub or The Lion as my nieceRead more would say. Close to great attractions and parks/playgrounds for the little ones. Thank you so much. Hide

Friendly village. Thai Terre restaurant next door excellent . Well thought-out childrens playground just past the church along main road. Parking not a problem though lots of comings and goings and double parking from customers of the deli. Birling Gap is a 10 minute drive away with plenty of walkers making the journey on foot. Brilliant and quirky in a fabulous position. Looking out over the green to the pub each day was lovely. Smashing Deli and a Tai right next door how brilliant. I think the owner had struck exactly the right balance between the old and the new. Only a hop and a skip from Eastbourne and also close to Battle which were bothgreat days out. Plus the walkRead mores up above the village were fab. You really know you are alive up there. Invigorating. Really enjoyed Glebe Cottage and felt very relaxed. Ace Hide

The property was beautifully presented and had everything we needed to have an enjoyable stay. We had a wonderful family holiday. Fabulous location. Cottage perhaps a bit quirky and appealed more to the older members of the family than to the younger generation.

Location was great, so close to everything but also so quiet and relaxing. We felt very relaxed in the cottage, very home from home. The Tiger Inn, Hikers Rest and Deli on the Green are all a must and only a step away which was fab. Chilling out on the green watching the world go by was also very enjoyable.
