Dartmoor is basically doggie heaven – think of all those wild woodlands, open moorlands and deep river valleys to be explored! Stay at this cosy converted barn and be at the heart of this beautiful national park that’ll delight canines and humans alike. This attractive property – which has its very own hot tub – can accommodate six adults and up to four dogs, so there’s plenty of room for a large family or group of friends.
The barn has an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with plenty of space for Duke’s basket and squeaky toys. This area is perfect for watching DVDs altogether and planning the next day’s activities. The private patio boasts pretty lake views to soothe your soul and help you recharge your batteries. For ultimate relaxation, slide into the hot tub and feel your stresses melt away as you enjoy your favourite playlist coming through the Bluetooth speakers. To continue enjoying the fresh air, cook up a feast on the BBQ – not forgetting to sling Duke a sausage as a special holiday treat.
Walk to a dog-friendly pub in Tavistock for a quick pint, or head on a pub walk if you want to make an afternoon of it. There are also plenty of river walks along the Tavy – perfect if your springer spaniel likes getting wet. If Duke’s got an awful lot of steam to burn off, why not take a jog or bike ride through the countryside with him running alongside you? For a group outing, head to Buckland Abbey (8.5 miles), an impressive National Trust estate. Dogs are allowed into its outdoor areas. Plymouth is also 16 miles away for if you fancy some sea air.
