This delightful, mid-terrace house, within a mile of the historic walls of York city centre, is the perfect location for families/friends looking for history, culture, shops and restaurants on their doorstep. And when you’ve had enough of the hustle and bustle of city life, you can escape with your canine companions to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding North Yorkshire countryside.

Like York itself, this property is a mixture of old and new; with a delightful blend of traditional features and contemporary flashes of colourful fabrics and stylish furniture. Stepping inside, you will find yourself in the light and spacious lounge/diner with its open fire to snuggle up in front of and a table for four. The dining space leads through into the bright, galley-style kitchen or out into the enclosed courtyard garden with its outdoor seating. The shower room and WC is accessed through the kitchen. Up the steep, winding staircase, you will find the double bedroom and en-suite WC, whilst the twin bedroom is up a further narrow staircase in the converted loft space with its slanted ceilings.

There is plenty to do in York itself, with over 30 museums to visit, including the National Railway Museum and the York Castle Museum. Or why not explore York’s Viking past with a visit to the Jorvik Viking Centre. There is also the magnificent cathedral York Minster that shouldn’t be missed. To keep Fido happy, be sure to head to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, where you’ll find Kirkham Abbey ruins in the beautiful Derwent Valley (15.5 miles) and the spectacular palace of Castle Howard (17.5 miles), where dogs are welcome.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin
  • 1 shower room and 1 en-suite WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge with freezer box and washing machine
  • Open-fire (first basket of smokeless fuel included)
  • Off-road parking for 1 small car
  • Pubs, shops, river walks and parks within walking distance
  • TV/DVD in lounge
  • Please be aware stairs are narrow and steep
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £25. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

We loved our stay in Green Cottage. It was a really easy walk into York Centre, so location was great. The cottage was comfortable and cosy. Our daughter loved the attic room. It was cold whilst we were in York but the house was easy to keep warm and we also liked having the fire one evening. We would definitely recommend both Green Cottage and YorRead morek as a location for a short break. Hide

We (two couples) spent New Year at the cottage. It was the perfect place. Just a 15 minute walk into York and some lovely quaint pubs. Then we saw the New Year in in the cosy living room. Altogether a perfect stay

Loved York. The cottage is situated within walking distance of York city centre. Lovely and clean. We were thankful for the hamper and the dogs loved their treats. The only down side was the bed and the settee. Being tall people both were uncomfortable. But I do understand you cannot please everyone.

Ideal cottage for a long weekend with some nice welcoming touches and it was nicely decorated for Christmas which was unexpected. The stairs are steep and therefore if youre of limited mobility they could be a challenge, although there are plenty of hand rails. Its a 15 minute walk into town but the number 2 bus is handy if needed (although we did Read morewalk faster than the bus!). Handy butcher and grocer across the road and a Spar. Hide

Green cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The owners have covered every eventuality. The kitchen is quite small but perfectly ok for the amount of cooking one wants to do on holiday. The walk into York takes approx 15 minutes then you have the whole of York to explore. It's unfortunate that the pub opposite has closed.

A really delightful house within a short walk from the main city walls. The property itself had everything we needed and there were neat labels left around the house to help with figuring things out. We didn't use the upstairs room but would be great for two children so ideal for couples and families.

A lovely house with a useful small garden. There is easy walking into York and it is a great city to explore. The house is well equipped and very cosy. The double bed is super comfortable. We found parking at the house perfectly easy with our estate car. Enjoy!

Compact cottage which packs a punch in a great location and right on the bus route. You can walk into Bootham Bar in 10 minutes (often quicker than waiting for a bus). Lovely gifts of treats and drinks on arrival and shop, cafe and bar right on the doorstep. Everything you need is provided. Lovely decor and features. Met the neighbour on our first Read moreday who was incredibly friendly and helpful with information about nearby parks and electric scooters. Other neighbours and cats also friendly! Hide

Loved our stay in York. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need. Parking is a little tight but good. York Minstrr is 15 minutes away and York is historical and stunning. We would definitely stay here again. We had our little labrador with us and she loved it and came on a ghost walk with us.

Lovely little cottage in a great location!! Really enjoyed our stay.. Things that may have been in the detail & I overlooked which would stop me from going back (although didnt change our great stay) are; lane width & manoeuvrability, plus parking space - small & awkward if you drive a big car. Slippery, slightly awkward stairs. Downstairs shower. Read moreGarden tiny (if you have dogs) & no lock on back gate (enclosed, not secure). Again, had a great stay & comments only to help others when booking. Hide

Perfect location, out of the way of noise but walking distance to everything. We really enjoyed staying and would definitely go back. Arrival hamper was jammed packed with goodies and we enjoyed a lot of them. We didnt get time to write it the guest book as we had to nip off for our second holiday in Scotland. We didnt use the top Floor due to our Read moredaughter changing her mind. We really enjoyed our cosy stay. Parking space is small but we spoke with the neighbour and he didnt mind how we parked Hide

Great little cottage conveniently located to walking access into York and easy to drive out to the surrounding area. It had all we needed for a home away from home. The only word of warning, the stairs are very steep and probably not for those not fully mobile! The parking space is quite snug but was fine for us with a small car.
