This pretty cottage sleeps two guests and one canine companion. The rural property is perfectly placed to enjoy a whole range of dog-friendly outings and has direct access to a public footpath through the countryside. From historic fishing villages, such as Clovelly and Appledore (both within 10 miles), to some of the country’s most spectacular beaches (the property is less than 9 miles from the coast), you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to places to explore with your trusty four-legged friend.
The beautiful single-storey converted barn is packed with charm, thanks to the wonderful exposed beams and characterful stone walls. The cosy lounge/kitchen/diner is decorated in a country-cottage style, featuring warm tones and pretty fabrics, and is the perfect place to snuggle up in front of the electric fire after a long walk with Rover. Rustle up a tasty meal in the kitchen, perhaps sampling some delicious local produce, before heading out to the seating area at the front of the property. This is also a lovely peaceful spot to sip a morning coffee whilst the furball gets some fresh air.
The historic fishing village of Clovelly offers a truly unique experience. Clinging to a 400ft cliff overlooking Bideford Bay, its car-free cobbled streets and flower-strewn cottages are everything you could ever want from a traditional Devon village. Grab an ice cream and slowly make your way down to the pretty harbour, where you can watch the fishing folk going about their daily lives. To give the waggy-tailed one a good stretch of the legs, head to Westward Ho! (9 miles away). With almost 2 miles of golden sand, even in high season, it’s easy to escape the crowds and enjoy plenty of off-lead fun. Just be mindful of the dog restrictions on the first section of sand.
