  • Plenty of walks nearby and a lovely south facing garden
Property code: LLH01

Enjoy unrivalled beauty in the remarkable Lake District, where you’ll find dog walks aplenty and an abundance of sticks to be fetched by your beloved hound. This welcoming cottage sleeps four guests and two of your canine companions, offering a cosy space to relax on both cold winter nights and balmy summer evenings.

Renovated from a 17th-century farmhouse, this pretty cottage maintains plenty of original charm and traditional country decor throughout. Bounding bowows can stop off in the porch on arrival, giving you a chance to dry off muddy paws and kick off your walking boots. If it’s been raining cats and dogs, be sure to make use of the laundry facilities in the utility room before retiring to the cosy lounge. There is a rug with Fido’s name on it in the living room, a cosy spot before a warming wood burner that’s perfect for two dozing doggies to occupy whilst you enjoy catching up on the TV. If blessed with better weather, then be sure to make use of the private garden, a spot to dine alfresco and catch some evening sun whilst your four-legged friends enjoy exploring the enclosed space.

Set tails wagging with a trip to the vast waters of Lake Windermere. England’s largest lake lies just 3 miles from your doorstep, approximately a 1-hour walk along a tree-lined country road. Enjoy strolling along the waterfront or, if your dog has four sea legs, a trip on a boat. In this area, you’ll find an abundance of towering fells to be hiked, including Cumbria’s highest peak of Scafell Pike (28 miles). Let Rover take the lead with this challenging walk, stopping off for a rewarding bite to eat and bowl of water at nearby Langdale (8 miles) before heading home.

Great location, great equipment, clothes dryer was really useful. We were lucky that there was no one staying next door while we were there as the driveway is shared so dogs can roam between the 2 properties, although it is enclosed. Our guy enjoyed having free reign!

Old Barn was a lovely place to stay and well equipped for 4 people. Nice to have a second bathroom. Drying cabinet was a plus. Central heating worked well and meant it was warm and cosy in the evenings - we couldn't get the log fire to light, possibly because we didn't have any kindling. Location was great, although quite tight to get in and out ofRead more the gate. Good walking from the cottage over to Tarn Hows. We enjoyed a delicious meal at The Queen's Head in Ambleside. Hide

The location of the property and level of equipment are very good. However the entire property is in need of an upgrade

Property looks tired. All mod cons but little things let it down. Access is not easy on very narrow lane, especially at night, and a gate to open before you can get to parking space.

Enjoyed our stay at the cottage which was comfortable and pretty well equipped. Location is fairly remote with a single track road leading to the property - with only a few passing areas - unfortunate if you meet a lorry or tractor.

Comfortable spacious cottage in a peaceful location. Bird life in the surroundings was very enjoyable and the small garden has a nice table and chairs. The garden is very well kept and is sun lit. Lovely cottage with many walks from the door. We spent cosy evenings in front of the log burner. The pub in the village is closed but you can walk over the fields to Hawkshead its a very path to follow ( we came back in the dark with no problems one evening). Took us until 3 days into our stay to realise the sofas are recliners but well appreciated after a day on the hills Hide

Ideal for small family, all being on one level children would never feel nervous of being in a new environment. Nice if small garden, plenty if parking for 2 cars, access gateway not overlarge, needs care. Good walks from the door, public transport hourly at the end of the lane if you fancy a break from driving.

Cottage was comfortable and warm. Cottage is generally a little tired and some items could do with replacing. And personally I would prefer to have soap and cleaning products provided rather than a welcome pack. Nice location although the entrance is a little tricky!
