Nestled on a quiet country lane, this sophisticated, 17th-century, cob-stone cottage is the ultimate retreat for families and groups of friends craving an escape to the country; have a ball exploring 10 acres of surrounding gardens and paddocks with your canine companion. You will be sure to find plenty of stick-throwing opportunities in this wonderfully rural spot deep within Devon’s rugged countryside, with a myriad of tracks and trails beginning from the doorstep.

Featuring characterful exposed ceiling beams reminiscent of a traditional Devonshire farmhouse, the charming, light and bright kitchen/diner will inspire budding cooks to get creative with their tasty local produce to tame the growl of hungry tummies. The roaring wood burner set inside an exposed brick fireplace and the soothing neutral colour palette in the cosy lounge set a truly warming ambience that’ll lull little pups into a doze at the end of busy days of adventure. Upstairs, each of the four bedrooms, one an en-suite king-size, one en-suite double and two singles, feature charming, exposed ceiling beams and tail-wagging views across the garden; the two single bedrooms also share a contemporary family bathroom. Outside, playful pups will have a ball roaming the lawned garden and patio. Before bedtime, take the lead to explore the 10 acres of surrounding gardens and paddocks.

Weave your way around the excellent selection of cafes and restaurants and sniff out the best local produce this area has to offer in the traditional market town of Okehampton, 5 miles away. From Okehampton, take the lead and enter Dartmoor National Park to conquer heather-clad hillsides and rugged moorland, and find plenty of exciting new smells along the journey. Treat your pup to an afternoon bounding along Cornwall’s coast at Bude’s gloriously sandy stretch, reached within 29 miles.

We had a lovely stay. Good central location to explore Devon and Cornwall. Great pub (The New Inn) within walking distance, serving really good food and good beer! The cottage itself was perfect for a family of 6 (3 generations and a dog). Well equipped, clean and set in lovely grounds. Complimentary cream tea on arrival was a bonus!

This cottage is outstanding. Everything was provided even down to a wind up torch to find our way home from the excellent pub. The cottage is set in the grounds of an old refectory. The gardens were beautiful and enabled a very relaxing stay. We were greeted with a home made cream tea, which was delicious and the hosts made us feel welcome.
