Set in the tiny hamlet of Rochester in the Cheviot foothills, this cosy one bedroom cottage is an idyllic retreat for a couple and their four-legged friend. With a working farm next door and rugged moors as far as the eye can see, it’s great for couples who enjoy hiking and exploring the great outdoors.
Inside, the converted barn is spacious and welcoming, with a fantastic corner sofa and roaring wood burner in the lounge, just the job for kicking back after long days outside. Step up into the farmhouse kitchen with a large table and exposed stone arch to the lounge, giving an open feel without losing that cosiness. Long lie-ins are a must in the four-poster bedroom with its large, stylish en-suite. Fido will love nosing around the enclosed garden while you sit back and stargaze from the private hot tub.
The location here is a dream for walkers and cyclists, with 400 square miles of countryside to explore on the doorstep. The Cheviots, around 20 miles away, have plenty more trails of varying difficulty – the more energetic will enjoy the summit hike from Langleeford which takes you 815m to the highest hill in the range. For a change of scenery, the coast is less than 40 miles away. Head to the fishing village of Amble and take the hound puffin-spotting on Coquet Island.
