This bijoux bolthole is the perfect hideaway for a couple and two stick chasers. Pretty country lanes lead to this charming spot with beautiful views at every dog head-turn. Lovingly restored in 2016, the cosy barn conversion has two off-road parking spaces, and an enclosed outdoor garden and BBQ dining patio where Ferdy and Fido can admire their surroundings and compile their daily list of doggy demands. The area has some of the best walking and bike trails in Britain, so it’s ideal for active guests who enjoy the great outdoors and relaxed evenings by a toasty wood burner. If you decide to leave your cosy abode, there’s a pub in LLansilin (2 miles) and shops in Oswestry (5 miles).
On arrival, there are a few steps down to the front door and inside you’re greeted with an open-plan space to bounce about as you wish with a well-equipped kitchen, dining and Smart TV lounge area. Upstairs, there’s a wetroom with shower and WC, and an inviting bedroom with original exposed beams, seating, and incredible views from the porthole-style window. Bike storage, seasonal produce and holistic therapies are available by arrangement with the owner.
This is the perfect base for long hikes with your best friends. Try Offa’s Dyke Path on the border of England/Wales where you can spot wildlife, ancient castles and forts in the lofty moorlands and valleys. Your four-legged friends might be more interested in high-flying buzzards. Visit Oswestry, a thriving ancient market town with cafes, eateries and galleries. Or further afield, visit the National Trust’s stately Erdigg and hear servants’ tales past, explore the grounds and enjoy a riverside picnic - dogs are welcome in the vast country park, tea garden and yard.
