If you’re after a romantic trip away but don’t want to leave your four-legged companion at home, consider this cosy converted barn on the edge of the stunning Peak District. Enjoy breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside or head into the village of Wirksworth, where Fido can get acquainted with the local dogs (question is, will they bark in a Derbyshire accent?). On your doorstep, you’ll find a pretty orchard where you can take your furry companion out for morning and evening walks.
Inside the barn is an open-plan living space with a kitchen/diner and a lounge area. The exposed wooden beams and wood burner create a welcoming atmosphere where the three of you can relax together after an action-packed day out. The kitchen door leads onto a small patio space with a table and two chairs; perfect for studying an Ordnance Survey map in the fresh air with a glass of something to hand. The windows of the property offer gorgeous views over the valley and surrounding countryside, so a beautiful vista is never far away.
There’s plenty to explore in Wirksworth; while away a morning exploring this historic village’s shops and cafes or head for dinner at one of its restaurants. There are three real ale pubs in the village, all of which welcome dogs. When the hills are calling, you can access the High Peak Trail where you can walk to your hearts’ content amongst the spectacular Derbyshire scenery. Head out for some climbing at Black Rocks while your pooch nods off at the bottom of the crag, or take him for a refreshing dip in Carsington Reservoir, 5.5 miles away.
