At the heart of the Exe Valley, this gorgeous retreat feels like an escape to the wilds of Alaska. Framed by trees thick with leaves and overlooking a floodlit pond, the lodge is in a certified conservation area with 100 acres of private woodland. Any nature-lover’s dream, there is room for up to two dogs and their five favourite humans. Relinquish your worries and embrace the tranquillity; host to a number of on-site activities and with plenty of space to roam with your dogs, it doesn’t get better than this.
A true country cabin, this property combines authentic, rustic features with home-comforts and lots of little luxuries. With charming wooden interiors met with calming tones and plenty of light, you can immediately settle into your country hideaway. Stepping in from the veranda, the spacious open-plan lounge/diner houses two sofas, a TV and a wood burner-effect electric fire. The dining table lends a sense of occasion to meals prepared in the well-appointed kitchen, and outside there is seating too. Pour yourself a drink and head outside, relaxing with your two and four-legged friends as the light fades from the sky.
Surrounded by unspoilt natural beauty, the area is rich with wildlife and walks. Some members of your party may want to try their hand at the fly fishing and canoeing available onsite, whilst further afield Exmoor National Park offers a hive of activity. Don your boots, grab a couple of leads and head out to explore, you won’t be disappointed. After a day out and about along the trails, head 1.5 miles away to Exebridge village where the dog-friendly Anchor Inn serves up hearty pub grub.
