Switch off and escape real life for a while in this elegant detached cottage on the eastern edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Bring your two small furry friends (or one medium-sized) and enjoy scenic walks from the door – or why not bag one of the Munros? This is a fabulous couple’s getaway, serene, comfortable and totally tranquil.
Natural, neutral colours give this delightful cottage a real sense of calm, while exposed stone walls, rugged beams and internal steps add to the atmosphere. In the open-plan kitchen/diner you can cook up a gourmet meal then relax at the table, with the wood burner adding some flickering flames. Stairs lead down to the inviting lounge, a wonderful place to spend the evening with your pupsters at your feet. Throw a log on the wood burner, sink into an armchair, and switch on the Sky TV or play some music. During the day you’ll want to spend time spotting the red squirrels, deer, pine martens and array of bird life in the garden outside – your hounds may be hypnotised! On this level you’ll also find the elegant shower room, while the double bedroom – a cosy room with a beautiful metal bed and antique wardrobe – is along the hallway and up several steps. Patio doors lead from the dining area to a lovely patio, perfect for an al fresco meal, warmed in chillier months by a chimenea.
The cottage is located 2 miles from the picturesque village of Strathyre, where there’s a village shop and a post office. From here, stride out on the Rob Roy Way, hike the trails of the 50,000-acre Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, or head to the bustling town of Callander, 8 miles, where you’ll find tea shops, souvenir outlets and plenty more lovely walks to explore.
