Cream Tea Day with your dog

Kirsty 29 June 2018

National Cream Tea Day falls on June 29th, which means oodles of scones, fresh jam and clotted cream can be consumed with absolutely no guilt felt (apparently…)! And if there’s one thing that people and pooches alike can relate to more than anything, it’s a love of food; whether it’s the rustle of a crisp packet, the delectable scent of bacon, or a joint of roast beef coming out of the oven, there’ll be twinging noses and wagging tails in no time.

Whilst your canine companion may not be able to indulge in a full-blown cream tea like you, there are lots of alternative indulgent treats that are Fido-friendly, plus there are some pawsome cafes across the country that have tailor-made teas just for your pooch!

Our dog Trip loves his food!

With that in mind, we’ve sniffed out some of the best products and places for your fluffy best friend can to enjoy on this glorious foodie occasion.

Doggie afternoon teas

Your canine will need to have good petiquette if you choose to head to one of these restaurants for a puppy-purposed tea party! Always with your four-legged friend in mind, these places have a menu option specifically for dogs, making it the ultimate treat.

The Crosby Tea Rooms, Crosby, Liverpool

A traditional English tea room, this gem in the north west is the pawfect place to head with your pooch. From specially brewed iced tea just for dogs, to a ‘doggie cream tea’ complete with biscuits in a bowl and special tea to help with their breath and coat, they’ll go mutts for the right royal treatment at this place.

The Egerton House Hotel, London

This upmarket London establishment not only offers the Great British tradition of cream tea to humans, but it opens its Drawing Room doors to dogs too. While you tuck into pastries, preserves and perfectly sliced sandwiches, your canine companion is served their very own selection including meatloaf, a homemade doggy biscuit, ice cream and a chew toy to take home afterwards. Who’s been a good boy then?!

The Pet Café, Cheshire

Found within Bents Garden and Home store, The Pet Café offers your four-legged friend a menu just as pawsome as the human one. Take time out with your woofer and relax in an environment where dogs are welcomed and tasty treats are endless!

Treat time

There’s not much fun for your pooch in watching you munch a homemade cream tea while they sit with a wagging tail and an empty belly, so we’ve paw-picked some fabulous alternatives for them to enjoy by your side.

Billy and Margot ice cream

Clotted cream may be on the banned list for your dog’s diet, but this ‘ice cream’ certainly isn’t! Dairy free, 100% vegetarian, and packed with fruit, Aloe Vera and flaxseed oil, there’s plenty of nutrition crammed into these little tubs to ensure your hound gets healthy benefits from this unique treat. The product is available in three flavours: apple, banana and carrot, strawberry and apple, and honey and banana.

Woof&Brew tea

As the name would suggest tea is a vital component when it comes to creating the perfect cream tea, and while your dog might not be able to enjoy a traditional cup of Rosie Lee, the modern age brings with it the miracle birth of doggy drinks! Woof&Brew offer canine concoctions that resemble the traditional English beverage and not only quench a thirst, but are designed to help aid issues such as digestion, breath, and anxiety. Your pooch will go mutts for it!

The Dogs Cake Bakery

Cake is a staple of any afternoon tea, so while you eat as many sweet treats as your belly can bear, your dog can devour their very own pupcake! The online shop offers create your own kits to decorate your dog’s delicious treat yourself, individually wrapped sponges, and creative canine birthday cakes for their special day. It’ll be a tough choice to decide what treat to spoil your pooch with!

If a cream tea isn’t enough of a luxury for you and your four-legged best friend, we have lots of dog-friendly cottages across the UK – you can sample some more local cream teas while you’re there!
