Introducing our Canine Critic

After months of determined pups applying, thousands of applications to read, and an intense public vote, we’ve finally crowned our Canine Critic – introducing Poppy!

A one-year-old cockapoo from Cheltenham, this gorgeous girl has fought off thousands of other wonderful entrants, earning the coveted pawsition which will see her head off on four paid holidays throughout the year with her owners, dog-umenting her trips to share with other pooches and their humans. She’s just a normal pup that’s living for the weekend, so she can get out and about to do what she loves most – have fabulous adventures with her humans!

From a young age, Poppy has dragged her owners to some furnomenal locations around the UK, making her a seasoned traveller already. Living so close to the Cotswolds, she has visited many of the beautiful towns and villages right on her doorstep but is certainly not scared of travelling further afield, having recently dragged her pawrents to Scotland for a ten-day road trip to celebrate her first birthday. Add to that escapes in the Lake District, Yorkshire and Wales, and that’s one very experienced explorer!

Poppy brands herself as a ‘little mountain goat’ after sniffing out adventures on mountains across the country and is always on the lookout for dog-friendly pubs and cafes on her expeditions – a quality that will come in handy when recommending destinations for our loyal canine customers!

Never one to be confined by rules, she loves unearthing hidden gems that are off the usual tourist trail, as well as paddling, digging and playing frisbee on the beach. She loves a good car journey, and is an affectionate little soul that loves snuggles, tummy rubs and meeting other doggos. Keep the wheelie bins away though… she’ll cross the street just to avoid them!

Her owners Cara, 27, and Andy, 29, love playing hockey, and the ever-faithful Poppy will always bark if either of them score a goal. She’s also a big foodie who taught herself how to get onto the kitchen counter when she was just a pup; one day, her humans returned home to find that she had demolished an entire cheesecake, pizza and pack of chocolate cookies – that was one hefty vet bill, and one very big lesson learnt!

Poppy is quite simply a normal dog with a love of adventure. She buries her treats in the garden then takes them in the house covered in mud, she will sleep for hours in the car, and she’ll happily chase a pheasant if she sees one wandering.

We’re so excited to have crowned our top dog and can’t wait to welcome Poppy on board as our #CanineCritic2018. We hope you’ll enjoy hearing about her journeys as much as we will, and that she can inspire you to head off on your own dog-friendly cottage holiday soon!
