It may be that over the last few weeks you’ve found out exactly what your dog does at home all day whilst you’re at work, because chances are, you’ve been right there with your four-pawed friend. But here at Canine Cottages, we’re hoping that when the time is right, you’ll be able to pack a lead and set off to explore some brand new locations with your pup.

Your canine companion is just as much part of the family as anyone else so we know that they won’t want to miss out on the chance to fetch sticks, play ball or have some canine capers a little further from home and sniff out some brand new walkies.

But for now, throw Fido a bone and settle down to have a good paw through our guides to various furbulous dog-friendly destinations all over the UK and start planning where you will lead your pack.

DOG-FRIENDLY CORNWALL

Once you’ve spent time in this stunning South West county, you’ll wonder just how the woof you’ve never been here before … and you certainly won’t want to go home. With miles upon miles of gorgeous coastline, hidden coves and fantastic walks, it can be hard to choose exactly where to start.

Of course, the vast array of dog-friendly beaches would be on any adventuresome pup’s bucket list and Cornwall will not fail to disappoint if you and your dog like nothing better than sand between your toes and paws and salty air on your skin and fur!

We have a furbulous range of dog-friendly cottages just waiting to welcome you and the whole muttley crew when you’re ready.

DOG-FRIENDLY DEVON

  Puggy and Pops Devon cliff

Devon is an amazing place for a UK holiday and an even more perfect location if you have your canine companion(s) in tow.  The fabulous beaches on both the north and south coast are pawfect for sandcastle-bombers, wave-jumpers and pebble-strollers alike, and when you get tired of the coastline (as if!), grab a lead and with your pup at your heels you can choose from myriad countryside strolls or moorland hikes – all within superb landscapes.

When it’s time to head back to your Devon holiday cottage, all breeds are welcome in our pet-friendly pads and we also offer fantastic homes that welcome multiple dogs too, so no need to leave anydoggy behind.

DOG-FRIENDLY LAKE DISTRICT

 Willow and Bobby Lake District

The Lake District is, without a doubt, doggy heaven when it comes to a holiday – and humans are sure to have a pretty good time too. With mirror-glass lakes and walks sprinkled liberally with woodland, valleys, hills and waterfalls there’s a trail for every type of dog to enjoy.

Should you fancy a different perspective from the water, dogs are welcome aboard many of the watercraft on the lakes, including on the Ullswater steamers or you can let your pup run free on one of the glorious sweeps of coastline found in the area.

When it’s time to let sleeping dogs lie, we have a great range of holiday cottages which welcome furry family members too. With properties which have enclosed gardens, wood burners and sometimes the odd doggy extra, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

And when you’re feeling peckish, the Cotswolds is home to great dog-friendly eateries where everydoggy can relax and enjoy the chance to refuel. Our Cotswolds canine cottages really have the bow-wow factor too with plenty of places where you can relax weary paws after a hard day’s stick and ball chasing – choose from delightful rural cottages to grand manor houses.

The Peak District is absolutely brimming with spectacular scenery and a web of paths and trails for you to happily spend the day wandering. Whatever the age or agility of your pup, the choice of w-a-l-k-i-e-s is endless.

Not only that, the Peak District is packed with dog-friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants to grab some Scooby snacks as well as some top attractions where your pup is welcome too. And when the day is done, we’ve also got some great paw-friendly pads that your whole family will go mutts for.

Sussex is the ideal place for you and your canine chum to discover a new leash of life, and for those urban dogs used to city life, it’s just a couple of hours from London so you’ll be able to enjoy the coast and countryside in next to no time – great if you’ve got the travel itch (and not fleas) somewhat unexpectedly! Choose cliff-top walkies, woodland strolls or open spaces with magnificent views where you can dash about to your heart’s content.

Once you’ve exhausted yourselves with all of the Sussex excitement you can shake a stick at, settle down in one of our great pooch-friendly properties where you can sit, stay and lie down in great surroundings – you may even discover a doggy treat or two.

READY TO LEAD THE WAY?

So there it is. Just a brief sniff at six fabulous UK destinations which are great for a holiday with the whole pack. We can’t wait to welcome you again with open paws, just as soon as we can, to places where you and your pup will leave no stick un-fetched, no ball un-chased and no corner un-sniffed. It’s time to get planning to treat your family and four-pawed pal(s) to a UK staycation they'll remember. Don't ruff it, book with Canine Cottages.

The health and safety of our property owners, their families and the local communities surrounding our properties is our primary concern. Whilst we, like many across the UK, want nothing more than for holidays to return as soon as it is safe to do so, we will only resume business when the time is right and guidance from the government allows it. Our property owners and customers have continued to be extremely patient and understanding throughout this period, showing care towards the local communities in which our holidays take place. We expect this kind-natured consideration to continue once we do begin to welcome guests back to the holiday cottages we represent.

Until the government’s advice changes, we thought we’d help spread a little inspiration - reminding ourselves of the beauty we can find right on our doorsteps. We are focusing our efforts on preparing to give the British tourism industry the support it will undoubtedly need when we are all once again able to explore the UK with our four-pawed pals.
