Clovelly Soap Company: Canine Critics review

Canine Critics 28 February 2020

We know our dogs love to smell good – but unfortunately for us, our pups’ idea of a good smell is often the dreaded fox poo!

Lucky for our Canine Critics (and their humans), Clovelly Soap Company kindly sent out a Luxury Mucky Pup gift set to each dog. The Critics get to smell great and enjoy super-soft skin and fur thanks to natural scents and ingredients, and their humans get a fresh-smelling, squeaky clean pup with no worrying about whether the products will be too harsh for their little fur babies.

But what do our Critics think of the Clovelly Soap Company products? Here’s the verdict from three of our top dogs:

Barney, South East Canine Critic

So, I had been out on a fabulous walk, rolled around in the mud – probably some poop as well but you only live once, right? I arrive home and I hear the dreaded bath – AHHH! Mumma had decided to put the Mucky Pup Soap to the test (there are no photos, unfortunately, as Mumma bathed me on her own and if she lets go of me, I make the great escape). She was surprised how much it lathers to cover my floofy body and how paws-itively incredible it really does smell!

After the long, drawn-out process (I swear Mumma does it on purpose), we finally finished, and I was as soft as velvet and she wouldn’t keep her hands off me! So now I’m smelling pawfect and looking sassy, ready to go and impress the ladies.

Best bits about this soap:

  • SMELLS PAWSOME (a blend of tea tree oil and green clay... whatever that is)
  • Handmade in the UK – doesn’t get much cooler, right?
  • ALL natural ingredients – yes, I know you don’t need me to go on anymore because it’s dogtastic!

I was also lucky enough to try out the Nose & Paw Balm – in lavender, of course; still got to be smelling friggedy-fresh! Walking on my paws all day and night, with no diamond-encrusted slippers for me (selfish hoomans, once again!), they do get dry. Enter Clovelly Soap Co.’s Nose & Paw Balm. Mumma put this on me three to four times a week and my paws were suuuuper soft and hydrated! It’s paw-tastic – all ingredients are natural as I like to lick my tootsie rollers and this means it’s not harmful to me at all.

Another bonus for this company is the packaging: plastic-free and fully recyclable – winner, winner!

Peace out Mucky Puppers!

Puggy and Pops

We were sent the Mucky Pup gift set by the Clovelly Soap Company and we LOVE IT!

The set was packaged beautifully and it included some gorgeous locally baked doggy biscuits from Devon, as well as the famous nose balm and the bestselling doggy soap bar.

The Luxury Nose & Paw Balm is made from the finest natural ingredients which are designed to sink beautifully into the skin without feeling oily. Each 30ml glass pot contains beeswax, shea butter, calendula-infused sunflower oil and meadowfoam seed oil plus therapeutic-grade essential oils. It is unflavoured and unscented, so the dogs aren’t tempted to lick it off – perfect for greedy Puggy who seems to think everything is a snackie!

The gentle nature of this balm means it can be used on most areas of your doggo, including paw pads, dry noses, and skin. Like most pugs, Puggy suffers from a dry nose, so we have been using this balm religiously and it really does the trick! We have also been using it on the tips of Pops’ ears, which tend to get very dry during the winter, but this balm seems to have remedied it! This is definitely a product we will continue to use, and we will make sure we never run out.

The bestselling 50g dog soap is, quite frankly, brilliant. It was an instant hit with us as it is kind to the environment as it doesn’t come in a plastic bottle, but it doesn’t stop there! This handmade, vegan soap is free from artificial ingredients, paragon free and not tested on animals. It’s crammed full of natural goodness including green clay, coconut oil and tea tree, leaving the doggos squeaky clean and smelling amazing. It’s gentle on their skin and even suits Pops, who has notoriously sensitive, flaky skin.

We have used this soap all autumn and winter for both dogs and we still have a good-sized chunk remaining. For value for money, I don’t think it gets much better, and we will certainly be stocking up for future bath times! Top tip – we hang ours in a small mesh laundry bag to dry it out in between uses to stop it going soft!

If you’re looking for decent, well-made grooming products for your beloved pooch, and want to support a gorgeous, small, family-run business, then we cannot recommend Clovelly Soap Company enough!

The Mucky Pup gift set includes a eucalyptus, lemon and mint soap, an all-natural nose and paw balm, and some delicious hand-made tuna treats!

Let’s start with the soap. It smells sooo good and makes my fur feel super soft and even more luxurious than usual! My humans say they love that it’s a handy little bar that’s easy to use and doesn’t make a mess. Apparently, I can be fidgety in the bath (you try being put in the bath when you’re trying to nap!) and this soap means my humans can clean me in a much more efficient way.

Now, the Nose & Paw Balm. I have a few allergies so I like to sneakily lick in between my paws when my humans aren’t looking – this can make them quite sore! This balm is so relieving for my paws after I’ve licked them and makes them feel furtastic again. My humans love the lavender smell and really like that it contains all-natural ingredients.

Now, onto the most delicious part of the gift set – the treats! These are super tasty and handmade in Devon. My human and I love local, handmade products so this makes them even more pawfect for us. These treats were perfect for on the go and my pawrents said they were great to give me when we’re out and about, when I’m extra good on walks, or if they need me to sit still for a photo!

Overall, my humans and I absolutely loved the Mucky Pup gift set. While I personally loved the treats, my humans were very impressed with the soap and the balm. The soap and balm were very suited to me pawsonally because of my allergies and strong dislike of bath time. My humans do everything they can to relieve my itchiness and these products were amazing on my sensitive skin and really easy to use on me. But they would be pawfect for any dog who wants silky, beautiful smelling fur, and soft, healthy skin – and any owner that wants to tackle tricky bath times and irritated skin and paws!

Our rating for this gift set is a pawsome 10/10. There is nothing we can fault; we really loved the products and you can feel the care that went into making them. My humans would buy this again for ourselves and for my other dog friends and their lucky pawrents.
