Dog-friendly places to eat in Bakewell

Wyes Waters Café and Tea Rooms

Bakewell tart

Best for a slice of traditional Bakewell tart: You can’t leave Bakewell without trying a slice of the famous pudding, and this dog-friendly café in Bakewell is one of the best places to sample the iconic treat with your pup by your side. The café not only warmly welcomes dogs, but kids too, with a large toy box to keep them occupied. The menu is bursting with classics from English breakfasts to hearty pies, but make sure you save room for pudding!

Why your dog will love it: The almond scent of the Bakewell tart wafting through the café will have his nose twitching, plus we’re sure he’ll love hoovering up your crumbs!

The Manners

Dog-friendly pub

Best for a pint with your pup: Sometimes nothing but a pint will do after a long walk in the Peak District, and The Manners is one of the pubs in Bakewell that allow dogs too. Whether you choose to sit in the bar or head outside and make the most of the patio heaters, dogs will be made a fuss of here. Humans will have a great time too, with a menu full of mouthwatering favourites and a host of local ales. Plus, it’s a lively venue with quizzes and live music in the evening, so it’s great to visit any time of day.

Why your dog will love it: He can expect plenty of fuss and maybe even a treat if he’s a good boy!

Aisseford Tea Room

Tea room

Best for a pick-me-up after river walkies: In the picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water, this charming dog-friendly tearoom is just 2 miles away from Bakewell. Take a stroll along the River Wye and enjoy refreshments here before walking back to Bakewell. It warmly welcomes dogs that haven’t been swimming in the river, and has a lovely outside seating area where you can soak up the sunshine. As well as delicious homecooked fare, you can pick up some local produce to enjoy back at your holiday cottage.

Why your dog will love it: A river walk, a fresh bowl of water AND some sausages to cook back at the cottage? What’s not to like?

Dog-friendly things to do in Bakewell

Love Lock Bridge

Love Lock Bridge

Best for proving your undying love to your pup: There are many ways to show your dog you love them, but this could be one of the most unusual. The Wye Bridge is full of ‘love locks’, where couples scratch their names onto a padlock, lock it around the bridge and throw the key into the river, to signify their everlasting love for each other. We don’t see any reason you couldn’t try this with your dog!

Why your dog will love it: As well as the adoration he’ll feel from you, there’s also the possibility of walkies along the Wye, which is sure to set his tail wagging more than a padlock!

Bakewell Old House Museum

Museum

Best for historic hounds: This 16th-century former yeoman’s house is the best place to visit to learn about local life. Take a trip back in time to learn about 500 years of history, from the reign of Henry VIII, Elizabethan life and the Industrial Revolution – plus, there are artefacts from the Tudor period too. The best bit, however, is that your pup is allowed to explore with you – as long as he’s well behaved (which is all the time, right?!)

Why your dog will love it: He’ll get a trip around somewhere new with his favourite human, as well as having a fresh bowl of water waiting outside for him.

Bakewell Dog Show

Dog show

Best for making four-legged friends: Time your holiday for this annual event and your dog will be in their element! One of the most dog-friendly places in Bakewell, this dog show is run by the Bakewell Agricultural & Horticultural Society and celebrates all things canine. Come along, meet other pups and their owners and enjoy a great day out.

Why your dog will love it: There’ll be so many new friends to make!

Dog-friendly walks in Bakewell

Monsal Trail

Monsal trail

Best for traffic-free walkies: The Monsal Trail is one of the best Bakewell dog walks around. It follows the route of the former Midland Railway Line for 8.5 miles between Chee Dale and Bakewell, and offers a flat, gentle and traffic-free trail perfect for all doggos. Plus, due to it being so flat, it means that the whole family can join in too, even if they’re in a wheelchair or pushchair.

Why your dog will love it: It doesn’t get much better than walkies with the whole family.

Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House

Best for dogs who want to pretend they’re lord or lady of the manor: While dogs aren’t allowed inside Chatsworth House, a 17th-century stately home on the outskirts of Bakewell, they can certainly strut around the grounds like they own the place. While pups have to be kept on a lead due to livestock, there are still welcome to explore the entire garden and parkland, including woodland, a waterfall, a ravine, and a rock garden.

Why your dog will love it: With so much different terrain to explore, his nose will be twitching and his tail will be wagging!

The Limestone Way

Limestone Way

Best for doggos who can run, and run, and run: Another one of the best dog walks in Bakewell, the Limestone Way is a long-distance trail that passes close by at Monyash. You can follow it north or south through the White Peak along the 46-mile way-marked trail, through breathtaking scenery and over hilly terrain that just might tire out even the most energetic of dogs.

Why your dog will love it: W-A-L-K-I-E-S – need we say more?

Dog-friendly cottages in Bakewell

The Mill Wheel, Bakewell | sleeps 2 dogs and 6 humans

The Mill Wheel

Best for pups who like the finer things in life: Combining classic character charm with contemporary interiors, this luxurious former mill is the perfect place for an indulgent break in the Peak District. The decadent colour scheme creates a relaxing environment for both human and hound, and if you can tear yourself away, river walks and all the attractions of Bakewell are close by.

Why your dog will love it: It’s at the foot of the Monsal Trail, so walkies are only a shake of the tail away!

Fox House, Bakewell | sleeps 2 dogs and 10 humans

Fox House

Best for a big group get-together: Gather the whole pack for an unforgettable getaway to this beautiful home close to the centre of Bakewell. Two-legged guests will adore the king-size beds and table tennis table, while the hounds can enjoy curling up in front of the wood burner or stretching their legs in the garden. And everyone will love firing up the BBQ on a summer’s evening – make sure there’s a few spare sausages for the doggos!

Why your dog will love it: With room for ten, your pups can be surrounded by everyone they love, and what’s better than that?!
