Step away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Welsh countryside. This traditional cottage offers a tranquil getaway for groups of eight, plus two canine companions, and is perfectly placed for scenic walks, trout fishing or days at the beach.
Sociable dinners are a pleasure in the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner of this well-equipped cottage. If you prefer not to use the oil-fired Rayburn cooker, there’s also an electric cooker and microwave in the spacious utility room (this is probably the best place to pop down your canine companions’ food bowls, too). The generous lounge has a variety of comfortable seating grouped around a feature fireplace and Sky TV, plus DVD, video and CD players. There’s also a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room on this floor. Upstairs, you’ll find the other two bedrooms: one with a double and a single bed, and the other with three singles. They share the large family bathroom with a corner bath for lovely long soaks. French doors from the lounge lead down stone steps and onto the patio, where you can enjoy meals alfresco at the picnic table or play games (and fetch!) on the huge lawn. You may also fish for trout on the owner’s land on the River Gwaun.
The secluded and surprising Gwaun Valley lies within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and its quiet country lanes are wonderful for walking as they have very little traffic. Abounding in myth and history, the area is wooded with beech, hazel, ash and oak, and you may spot some interesting birds, including pied flycatchers, wood warblers and treecreepers. The quaint coastal town of Fishguard is just 5.5 miles away, while Newport Sands Beach – broad, sandy and dog-friendly all year – is 7.5 miles away.
