Make your escape to this historic gatehouse retreat. Set within the grounds of picturesque Holkham Estate, you can truly switch off amid the peace and quiet of this North Norfolk idyll. This small but perfectly formed studio accommodation suits two outdoorsy humans and two canine companions down to the ground. Lie in bed and admire this grand room that’s been thoughtfully designed with nods back to the past incorporated into its modern aesthetic. Explore the estate, head further into the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or let your faithful canine friends have a ball on the beach on their holiday.
Large and tall windows either side of this generous room let the light flood into this delightful Grade II-listed gatehouse lodge. If it’s colder, light the wood burner housed in its old red brick chimney place with impressive surround, then let sleeping dogs lie as you sit in the armchairs on either side or relax on the bed. There’s a desk if the need arises and a basic kitchenette in one corner. Although it’s just one room, the impressively high ceiling gives it a spacious and relaxing feel. There’s a separate WC and shower too. Outside, there’s a lawned garden area for the dogs to stretch their legs early morning and at night.
If you’re fit and keen, you can explore the surrounding area solely on foot, taking your top dogs with you of course! Start with the 25,000 acres of historic parkland and woodland of the wider Holkham Estate, but do note dogs must be on leads in the grounds. Holkham village (2 miles) offers cosy cafes and a delightful restaurant which serves local produce from the estate. Warm the cockles of your heart watching the dogs have a ball at dog-friendly Holkham Beach (4 miles).
