This rural retreat is the ideal base for a couple wanting to explore the Kent countryside. Sitting in a quiet location, it has bags of charm and plenty of space, with a pretty, fenced and enclosed garden with a large lawn and patio, and a BBQ and fire pit so you can enjoy being outdoors any time of year. There are walks from the door to keep your furry companion happy and lots of interesting places to visit nearby.
This old wagon lodge has been converted, yet retains many of its original features, including the high vaulted ceiling and wooden beams, tastefully complemented by the oak flooring and styling. Incredibly, the double bed is medieval (now fully restored!). The wood burner warms up chilly evenings and French doors lead out to the patio for warm ones. The lodge is on a working farm but is quiet, surrounded by gorgeous country views. And Fido is sure to be pleased with the enclosed garden where he can enjoy zoomies while you throw some sausages on the BBQ.
The area is known as ‘the Jewel in the Weald’ and has many beautiful walks. Head out on the High Weald circular route from the lodge and wander through the countryside into Tenterden, 1.5 miles away, where you’ll find lots of cafes, bars, and restaurants. There are stunning walks on the beach at Camber Sands too, 15.5 miles from the lodge. Wine lovers may want to walk to Chapel Down vineyard in Small Hythe (2.5 miles) for a tour and tasting. There are lots of fantastic walking and cycling trails in Bedgebury Forest (15 miles) and at Bewl Water (18 miles) where you can also go fishing or have a go at several water sports. For a bit of romance, take a ride on a steam train on the Kent and East Sussex Railway from Tenterden where roaming Rovers ride for free.
