A stone-built property in the colourful seaside town of Swanage offers a distinctive, dog-friendly holiday home that’s full of character and quirky charm. Local fishermen once sold their catch from this converted former fishing shed. Today it sleeps four guests in comfort and style, along with one canine companion. Close to shops and cafes, it is within a half-mile walk of the glorious sandy beach and 200 metres from shops and cafes. This a great base for a small family or two couples to explore the glorious Jurassic coast of South Dorset and beautiful Purbeck Hills.

Areas of whitewashed stone, sloping ceilings and an exposed beam in the lounge nod to the building’s past. Tastefully furnished in neutral tones, it houses a spacious, ground-floor, country-style kitchen and separate dining area. On the same level are a family bathroom and king-size bedroom, with French doors opening to a private patio. An open staircase leads to the cosy, first-floor lounge, with comfortable seating before a wood burner. From here, a door leads to a snug twin bedroom. The decked patio is enclosed, with garden furniture and ample space for your pet.

Head for the beach and a designated area where four-legged friends can race across the sand and into the shallow waters all year round; out of season they can also romp on the main beach. Stroll along the charming Victorian pier, from where summer boat trips voyage along the coast. Dogs on leads are welcome in the 320-acre Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve. Attractions here include waymarked woodland rails and splendid Victorian Durlston Castle with a visitor centre, cafe, gallery and spectacular rooftop views. Take the Swanage Railway steam train for an atmospheric journey to picturesque Corfe Castle and explore the historic castle ruins.

The property was it a great location but could do with a good clean. There was a lot of dust and in places was dirty.

Electric toaster needs updating as does the microwave, cooker got very hot on the outside even the knobs were very hot to touch. Could be a hazard if young children in the property. Otherwise it was a lovely place to stay and we would do do again.
