This charming rural cottage close to a glorious, dog-friendly beach offers a tranquil holiday haven for a family or group of friends and a canine companion. This welcoming property sleeps six guests and is set on a working farm in the peaceful countryside. From the enclosed rear garden, there are beautiful far-reaching views of the sea at Lunan Bay, while the cottage is within easy reach of the harbour town of Arbroath (7 miles) and bustling Montrose (9 miles).
Beautifully furnished in contemporary style, this light and bright retreat has lovely rural views. The Shaker-style kitchen has all you need to cook up a storm and there is a lovely dining area in the light-filled sunroom. Snuggle up with your favourite hound before the wood burner in the comfortable lounge. This end-terrace cottage is on one level, so there are no stairs to climb at bedtime. Alongside a family shower room are three inviting bedrooms: an impressive four-poster king-size; a super-king-size/twin; and a pretty bunk bedroom. The rear garden, with patio seating, fire pit and BBQ, is perfect for stargazing from the wood-fired hot tub.
Head for Lunan Bay (2 miles) which is dog-friendly all year round. This long, sandy beach, backed by dunes, is a popular spot for swimming and surfing and pets are welcome at the seaside cafe. Look out for seals and dolphins in the bay and hunt for gemstones, often washed up after a storm on this dramatic coastline. There are more sandy beaches at historic Arbroath, famous for its smokies (smoke-cured haddock), and you can follow the fascinating Smokies Trail through this attractive town. Your well-behaved pet is very welcome on the Caledonian Railway steam train from Brechin (10 miles) which puffs through a 4-mile stretch of countryside to the preserved station at Bridge of Dun.
