Take the time to tune out, switch off and look up at the stars. This tranquil farmhouse near the Vindolanda Fort even provides a telescope so you can admire the constellations in the renowned dark-sky area all around. There’s plenty of space here for family or groups of friends, and your pups will enjoy stretching their legs on the lawn and exploring the beautiful countryside nearby.
Leave your walking boots and dog leads in the utility room and head into the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, where there’s an Aga for preparing delicious meals (and drying wet dog towels) and a Smart TV. After supper, choose between the large lounge, with its selection of seating around a Smart TV and wood burner, or the cosy snug, where there are books to browse and a telescope. At bedtime, head up to the first floor and, from the landing, it’s one step up to the super-king-size bedroom with views over the garden. The twin room (also one step up) has a trundle bed to accommodate an extra child if required, and there are also two double bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room, and an elegant family bathroom. Finally, the enclosed garden is a great space for children and dogs to let off steam while you enjoy relaxing in the sun or grilling something tasty on the BBQ.
You’re in the heart of the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site and there are numerous hiking routes that take you through this iconic landmark of Roman Britain, with interesting destinations including Housesteads Roman Fort, 2 miles, and Chesters Roman Fort, 10 miles. Haltwhistle, 6 miles, is one of the main stopping points for visitors to the wall, and is also home to pubs, tearooms and restaurants, as well as Northumberland's only open-air swimming pool.
